Update: Changes to www.hcpl.net

We experienced some major problems with the site over the past couple of days and as a result we have had to switch to our new theme. For some customers, the menu containing the links to our catalog and My Account is being pushed into the banner and making it difficult to read. We are still working on this issue as well as the problems some customers are experiencing with the dropdown menu tabs. The menu that allows you to access the Catalog and My Account now also appears in the left hand sidebar just under the weather display and the Twitter button and Facebook Like button. Please click the image to the right to see a screenshot highlighting this menu.

Beat the Heat @ HCPL

With temperatures often in the three digits these days, we invite you to cool off at any of our 25 branches. All branches have air conditioning and plenty of places to sit and relax. You might also want to peruse our collection of books, DVDs, and audios. This would also be a great time to take a free computer class or bring your child to storytime. All branches have a variety of programming this summer to help keep you cool.

County health officials offer these tips to keep cool:

2010 TXLA Lariat List of Adult Fiction

Lariat List LogoAt the recent Texas Library Association conference, the Lariat List, debuted.  The List features 25 notable adult fiction works published the previous year.  Keddy Outlaw, former branch librarian at West University Library, was a member of the committee.  The list is currently featured on Library Journal's blog In the Bookroom.  The main criteria for selection was that books be a "pleasure to read."  The list represents a wide variety of genres.
