Reading for Glory: The 2nd Annual Tournament of Books Is Huge Success!

Harris County Public Library held the 2nd Annual Tournament of Books on Saturday in which teams of local high school students tested their knowledge of a set of fourteen books compiled by HCPL literacy staff. Saturday's teams were the winners of preliminary competitions to determine the team that would represent each of the eight participating schools.

The tournament consists of two parts. The first is a short answer Jeopardy-style round that tests competitors' factual knowledge of the books they read. The top three finishers advance to the championship round which consists of long form answers in which participants' interpretive, critical thinking and communication skills are showcased.

The next Book Buddies cycle starts in February – check out the video below to learn more about the program!

Harris County Public Library’s Book Buddies started as a pilot program at Freeman Library in the spring of 2016 as a way to support K-3 literacy in a public library setting. Because of our dedicated teen and adult volunteers and our passionate Children’s and Young Adult librarians, Book Buddies has grown into a system-wide program. To find out about participating and to see which branches are offering the program this upcoming cycle, please check our Literacy & ELA page.
