Thank You LSC Tomball Community Library ESL Tutors

Lone Star College Tomball Community Library would like to thank the ESL tutors who attended the ESL In-service about Teaching Reading and Using News For You.

The workshop covered a variety of Reading techniques, activities and strategies. The tutors were told about the free language software, Rosetta Stone and how it could benefit the students who cannot attend face-to-face classes this summer. The tutors were also shown how to use the library language database, Mango Languages.

We want to make sure that the community is aware of all the HCPL opportunities to learn English during the 2014 summer vacation season.

If you would like more information, call the library at 832-559-4200.

Sensory Sensitive Film

In support of National Autism Awareness Month LSC Tomball Community Library will show a Sensory Sensitive Film on Saturday, April 26 from 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM in the Meeting Room which is number L129.

This frosty, musical film is about two very loving, but different princess sisters who have quite an exciting adventure.

National Autism Awareness Month

In recognition of World Autism Awareness Day, Tuesday, April 2, LSC Tomball Community Library will “Light it up Blue“.

The staff will be wearing blue and if you are wearing blue too you will receive one of our hand-crafted blue puzzle pieces while supplies last. The puzzle piece was first created in 1963 and is the international symbol for autism. The National Autism Society notes that the puzzle pattern reflects the mystery and complexity of the autism spectrum. Join us this month as we acknowledge and raise awareness about autism. Be sure to come see the beautiful blue lights around the first floor Reference Desk!

Save the Date! World Autism Awareness Day

The month of April is Autism Awareness month. We would like to invite you to join the staff at LSC Tomball Community Library on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 as we "Light it up Blue" in honor of World Autism Awareness Day. The staff will be wearing blue that day. Why not join us and wear blue too?

We welcome your support.

Additionally, patrons who are wearing blue on  April 2 will receive one of our handcrafted puzzle pieces while supplies last.

The Month of March Madness

Why do we love the month of March?

We have so many events and several holidays. It may seem hard to keep up. Even the term "March Madness" immediately makes one think of basketball and rightly so, the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament is known as March Madness.  However, there are numerous other reasons to love the month of March. A few of the big ones are The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the start of Spring, Mardi Gras and of course, St. Patrick's Day.

Want to read about starting a Spring garden, the origins of Mardi Gras, why rodeo's are so popular or who is St. Patrick exactly and why do we have a day in his honor?
