The Week @ the Katy Library – September 7th Edition

Don’t forget: the library is closed on Monday, 9/07, for Labor Day. BUT, we’re back in full swing the rest of the week with storytimes, internet tutoring, knitting, and more. And speaking of more….

We have some special events this week. Wednesday at 6pm is our monthly Superación Personal, a discussion group in Spanish. Thursday at 3pm, we have Harris County giving a Hurricane Preparedness Program. For teens we have an SAT practice test on Saturday at 10:15am (please register ahead).

Come join the fun!

Who is Jaime Pressly?

It's Not Necessarily Not the TruthI’ve been walking past a book on the new bookshelf for a couple of weeks now, and I just can’t help but look at the cover and smile.  It has this adorable little blonde-haired girl with a sweet little sugar-coated smile that makes you feel warm and sunny inside.  (I do have to confess though that at first I thought it was one of those good-girls-who-turned-out-to-be-murderers type of books. Glad I was wrong!)

The Week @ the Katy Library - August 31st Edition

Don’t miss the Friends of the Katy Library Mini-Book Sale this Friday, 9/04, from 1-6pm! Get your book fix now before their annual sale in early 2010.

Other special features this week are the Club Hispanos de Libros on Wednesday @ 6pm and the Mystery Book Club on Saturday @ 10:30am.

Coming soon will be our new Afterschool Chill Zone for teens in Junior High or High School. We’ll have movies, laptops, snacks, games, and other ways to just hang out and have fun.

The Week @ the Katy Library - August 24th Edition

We have a quiet beginning to the school year this week. Those too young for school can get a headstart on their education by coming to storytimes: Babies on Monday - Bilingual on Monday - Toddlers on Tuesday - Preschoolers on Thursday. Those already out of school can learn something new at the Knitting & Crochet Club on Wednesday or the Internet Class on Thursday.

Be on the watch next month for our new Monday afterschool hangouts for teens (Junior High & High School)!

Embarrassing Financial Questions

Can I Pay My Credit Card Bill With a Credit CardYou know those times you have a question, and you just can’t bring yourself to ask it – just too embarrassing? Well, when it comes to financial questions, Mary Hunt is answering them for you. Her latest book Can I Pay My Credit Card Bill with a Credit Card is full of hundreds of financial questions and helpful answers.

Are You a Dummie or an Idiot?

For DummiesI’m a Dummie!  I love using the For Dummies series of books whenever I need to learn about a new topic.  I’ve also on occasion used the Idiot’s Guide series.  (I don’t believe you are what you read!)  But, when it comes to learning about computer-related topics, the choices are even greater.

Construction Next Door

Have you noticed the construction going on next door to the Library?  We're getting a City of Katy courthouse.  Stop by and check out the other amenities in our area of Franz Road: police station, dog park, and the Mary Jo Peckham Park

The Week @ the Katy Library - August 10th Edition

Who let the dogs out?  ARF, ARF, ARF, ARF!  They're back, and they're ready to read!  PAWS for Reading is coming back to the Library on Wednesday, August 12th at 1PM.  Be sure to sign up to read to a dog!

Also on Wednesday is our monthly Superación Personal for Spanish-speaking people.  They meet to discuss a different topic each month.  August's topic is "Los Principios de Liderazgo".
