Thursday 10:30 AM Gumdrop & Toothpick Structures

Picture of gumdrop and toothpick bridge holding up rail road ties.Join us 10:30 AM Thursday, February 28 for a tasty bit of building.  We are building with gumdrops and toothpicks.  You can get serious and build bridges and buildings or just make funny looking creatures with your materials.  Just come and have fun.  This program is intended for children 3 +. 

The Legendary Fats Waller voted #1 Harlem Renaissance Musician 2013!

The Bear Creek community has voted Fats Waller as their favorite Harlem Renaissance musician at our 6th Annual Harlem Renaissance Party!  We danced and jumped and all around boogied to the tunes of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Fats Waller.  After a good spread of tunes representing our nominees for the year the families voted on which performing artist tickled their toes the most.  The votes were close.  Ella came in as runner up with 26 votes and Fats Waller won with 27 votes!  Hope you can join us next year!    For more on Fats Waller click read more.

Harlem Renaissance Party Thursday!

Join us Thursday, February 14 at 10:30 AM for our annual Harlem Renaissance Celebration.  Bring out your dancing feet and get ready to shake it!  It’s a fun chance to expose your kids to the incredible music created by legendary black musicians like Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday to name a few. 

Infant Explorers: Kool-Aid Playdough

Picture of a Child playing with homemade playdough.Join us 10:30AM Thursday, February 7th for a fun new exploration of Kool-Aid play dough.  Babies 0-18 months are welcome to come and explore colors and textures. We will be using homemade play dough with packets of Kool-Aid to make an array of colors. 
This activity is fun and easy to do with household materials. We got our idea from Pinterest! It led us to the website called It’s Gravy Baby.

Shadow Puppets, Thursday 10:30 AM

Picture of shadow puppets are meant to be displayed here.Thursday, January 24 we are building puppets.  On the fourth Thursday of the month here at the Katherine Tyra Library we invite children ages 3 and up to come enjoy an hour of engineering and original creative genius!  This Thursday we are constructing puppets!  I hope you can join us!  This program is intended for children 3+.

Homeschoolers get a VOTE! Texas Bluebonnet Book Award.

Soft as Snow Storytime

This story time is intended for children 3-6 and will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday January 8th.  Make sure to grab a free ticket at the information desk.

Thursday is Build It! 10:30 AM

This is supposed to be showing a picture of children playing with legos!Come and join our Building program for ages 3-6. There is always a good time with a little music and mess making in our meeting room.  We have collected many different kinds of building materials, including a massive bucket of Legos to play with.  We have a children's building program every fourth Thursday of the month. Hope to see you there.

The Herdman kids are bad, really the worst kids you could imagine.  They have personalities and idiosyncrasies that make everyone laugh out loud.  The story goes that the Herdman kids have decidedly become interested in the school Christmas pageant. So they begin to bully their way into filling in the lead roles of Mary, Joseph, the Angel and the Wise men.  Their mission is madness but, at the end of the day there is a warm fuzzy feeling that reminds us of how special Christmas can be. I’ve recommended this to many adults with no children at home and they loved it too.
This book is available in print, CD, also in downloadable electronic audio.

David, more commonly referred to as Scrub is a little disenchanted with his summer vacation plans. He’s staying with his grandma who runs The Intergalactic

Bed & Breakfast. This vacation gets a little more interesting with every minute.  Scrub really earns his strips after picking up the slack in unique needs of the Bed & Breakfast customers.   Unlike the Herdman’s, Scrub is a stand up guy though he does face some interesting dilemmas. Crazy Eyed Turkeys Keep Loosing Their Parts!

 two girls with thanksgiving turkey craftOur preschool story time craft was a little stranger than usual.  Ms. Andleeb was reading about giving thanks and as a craft we had a fun turkey craft.  But all was not as it seemed.  It all started when one turkey lost an eye.  Then, things got really crazy.  Let me see if I can show you what  I mean.  It looked a little like what you will  see when you click HERE.
