Zombies Invade the Evelyn Meador Teen Isle!

They just keep coming back! On Wednesday (6/20) zombies once again invaded the Evelyn Meador Teen Isle thanks to this year's Zombie Make-up Party. Volunteer Cynthia, and Mr. Ash helped to apply the infection and zombiefy EV teens! It was great fun, and with luckily everyone got out safe, brains intact.

Evelyn Meador Iaido Event in the The Bay Area Observer!

The Evelyn Meador Library's Iaido demonstration, featuring performances by Emily Egan Sensei of Clear Lake Iaido and her outstanding students, and your's truly, Ash Welborn of Shin Shin Ryu Iaijutsu, was a great success! We were happy to learn that Rebecca Collins of the Bay Area Observer was in attendance, and featured us in the following week's edition. Egan Sensei and I are looking forward to next year's demonstration.

Iaido Display for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

For Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the Evelyn Meador Library's display case features items celebrating Japan's ancient warrior traditions. The display includes iaito (practice swords), an antique jingasa (samurai "war hat"), fascinating books, and more. Stop by and check it out!

Japanese Sword Arts Demonstration at the Evelyn Meador Library

Iaido, or Iaijutsu is the art of drawing the Japanese sword. It was one of the Japanese martial disciplines paramount in the education of the classical warrior (samurai). Emily Egan Sensei of Clear Lake Iaido (Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu), and Ash Welborn (Shin Shin Ryu Iaijutsu) will demonstrate some of their different schools' unique styles as the Evelyn Meador Library celebrates Asian American History Month! The demonstration will start in the meeting room at 1pm.
