STEAM Crafts all Summer!

We had our first in a series of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) youth crafts this afternoon, and it was a lot of fun! We made marshmallow catapults, and employed them in toppling graham cracker buildings. Join us for our next STEAM craft June 27th at 4:30pm in the meeting room.

Another Epic Summer Water Balloon Battle!

Once again we started off our summer programming right with our yearly summer water balloon battle! A wonderful wet time was had by all during our Childrens round (Alpha Montessori School stopped by and were great!), and Teen/Tween round. In all over 100 kids joined us! Special thanks to our volunteer balloon fillers who helped make it all possible.



 

Fabulous Bracelet Making at the Evelyn Meador Library!

Today we made some fabulous memory wire bead bracelets with Mrs. Annette Kinslow and a great and crafty time was had! Join us at 3pm every Wednesday in June and July for a unique craft. Wonderful free family fun for all!

Summer Reading and Fun at Evelyn Meador!

School is out, and the summer months are ahead! We at the Evelyn Meador Library hope you have a great and safe break but we also hope to be a part of your summer plans. We have reading programs, and events for all ages that we know will brighten any long or rainy days! Greek Dancing Performance this Saturday!

This Saturday, join us in celebrating the Library's birthday with a wonderful performance of Greek dancing brought to you by St. John's Asteria. The performance starts at 2pm in the meeting room!

Feeling crafty?! Join us tomorrow for this week's craft: Origami! Come challenge yourself with this ancient and creative Japanese art. We're starting at 4:30pm in the meeting room.

Classical Indian Music Demonstration

This coming Wednesday (5/18) enjoy an evening of Indian classical music by South Indian vocalist Prema Bhat along with Karun Salvady on the South Indian percussion drum (Mridangam). Prema Bhat will introduce the audience to Indian classical Ragas (Melodic scales) and Tala (Rhythmic patters ) in an interactive session. Join us in the meeting room at 5pm!

 

Lovely Photo Art Display by Mary Lou Darst

Currently on display in our Meeting Room, the magnificent photo art of Mary Lou Darst. Ms. Darst, a native Houstonian, is not only a renown artist, but also the author of "War Ready: In My Father's Shadow", a memoir of her childhood in a traveling post World War II military family. We're honored to host her display, so stop by the meeting room and enjoy her amazing art!

Iaido Demonstration this Saturday!

This Saturday (5/14) In honor of Asian-Pacific Heritage Month, we'll once again be hosting Emily Egan Sensei for our yearly Iaido demonstration! Iaido, or Iaijutsu is the art of drawing the Japanese sword. It was one of the Japanese martial disciplines paramount in the education of the classical warrior (samurai). The demonstration starts at 1pm in the meeting room!

Golden Pearls Senior Day Trip @ Sea Center Texas!

This month's Golden Pearls trip is to Sea Center Texas. Sea Center Texas is a marine aquarium, fish hatchery and nature center operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD). The site’s visitor center educates through interpretive displays, a “touch tank” and aquariums depicting native Texas habitats including a salt marsh, jetty, reef and open Gulf exhibits. The Gulf aquarium houses nurse sharks, large red drum, gray snapper, Atlantic spadefish, and the state record moray eel. The center offers a variety of educational programs that promote the wise use and conservation of Texas' marine resources. We're heading out on the 12th, so be sure to sign up (as of this blog there are only 6 spaces left!).
