 On Tuesday, March 16, from 4 to 7 pm, Dr. Helen Mendes Love will be on site to autograph her book, God's Stress Management Plan.   Amazon.com reviewers rated it 5 stars.

                                              

     The Friends of the Octavia Fields Memorial library are sponsoring this event to help readers avoid, reduce, or better manage stress.

 

 

 

Teen Drawing Contest

Hey! Teens from ages 12-18- you can win a prize package for doing what you like best!  Just submit a drawing depicting a character, setting or plot from your favorite book or story to the library by January 29, 2010.  A winner will be announced on February 1, 2010 and will receive an art gift pack, including a gift card for Barnes and Noble.  We want to see what you can do!!  All drawings will be on display in the library.

Kids Driving Ya Nuts Yet?

Bring 'em on down to Octavia Fields Library!  We'll be doing two movies this month, one tomorrow, December 22 and one next Tuesday, December 29, 2009. They're brand new releases the kids are sure to love!! One is about a group of furry super heroes, the other is an indepth look at a night in a museum... so be there, 4:30 in the meeting room, on the big screen!! Popcorn and water is provided!

Hey Kids!! Need A Great Gift For Your Mom and Dad??

   Want to give your Mom or Dad a great gift, but you don't have any dough?  Come on down to our Tuesday afternoon craft, 12/01/09 at 4:30 pm.    We'll be making 3 crafts altogether, one to eat, and two to give!   First, there will be Ice Cream Cone Christmas Trees.

    Then, we'll be making Christmas Star Ornaments 

And finally, a beautiful gift bag with tag to stow them in.  

 

 

Can We Talk?

 Can We Talk is  an interactive workshop for parents, compliments of Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services.  Learn how to develop the skills you need to communicate clearly with your kids.  The second workshop is  Mixed Messages and Peer Pressure, and will be conducted on Thursday November 19, 2009 from 6 pm to 8 pm.  Register for the workshop by called us at 281-446-3377.  Light Refreshments will be provided.

Santa is coming to Octavia Fields!!

Santa is coming to the library on 11/6/09 and 11/7/09.   He'll be reading stories, and you can bring your camera to take your own personal Santa pic. On Friday, 11/6/09, he'll be here from 1pm to 3:30 pm and on Saturday 11/7/09 he'll be here from 10 am - 1 pm. So pack up the kids and we'll see you here!!

Hispanic Heritage Month

In celebration of Hispanic American History month, the Octavia Fields Library is proud to present Kevin Groover and Vladimir Castellanos with a selection of music. The presentation will be in the main library at 7 pm, on Thursday, October 15 2009.  No tickets are necessary.  So please stop by and join us!!!

Free Microchipping For Pets!

Calling all Humble pet owners!!! There will be a free microchip program at the Humble Civic Center Arena on Sunday, October 11, 2009.  A local women's generous bequest allows the City of Humble to offer this program at the Home for the Holidays Pet Adopt-a-thon.  The chips are free for Humble residents who bring a pet and identification to prove their residencey in Humble proper. Non- Humble residents in surrounding communities are also invited and can get their pets chipped for just $10. Author Book Signing!

On Saturday, September 26, 2009, the Friends of the Octavia Fields Library are happy to sponsor a pre-market sale and signing of the book, The Best for Last : One Woman's Unusual Tale of Life and Love by Paulette Meeks, a local author.  Ms. Meeks was a teacher for over 43 years, and also served for 28 years as a Daughter of Charity, doing missionary work. Her last 4 years of teaching were at Lakeland Elementary School  in Humble.  The sale and signing will be from 3 - 4 pm, in the main library.
