League of Women Voters Guide @ Your Library

The League of Women Voters of Houston Education Fund makes available the LWV Voters Guide at the North Channel Branch Library. This nonpartisan election material in newspaper format includes "Things Voters Should Know" about the candidates running in the upcoming Primary Election.  For more information, you may go to www.lwvhouston.org

AARP tax help @ your library!

April 12th is your last chance!!  The **FREE** AARP tax help program ends with the Thursday, April 12th session. Please come into the North Channel Library starting at 10 am to sign up for your time slot. AARP volunteers will see customers from 12 to 4 pm this Thursday. No doubt you have seen the construction fencing at the back of the Galena Park Library. So far two trees were removed to make room for the new Computer Lab! We will remain OPEN while construction of the addition proceeds. We hope to give you a two week notice before we close for interior renovations. Please see the regular schedule of hours above this post. Since the United States government no longer mails tax forms and instructions to your home, please go to the IRS website to view and print needed materials:  www.irs.gov  Because the Galena Park Branch Library will soon close for renovations, we will only carry the basic 1040, 1040 A and 1040 EZ forms and the instruction booklets for each.  Please ask us for help with finding and printing out the forms and information that you need this tax season.

Sign up TODAY!!! FREE computer classes for adults continue on Tuesdays from 5 to 7 pm. Teacher Ray Nuño will answer your questions. The North Channel Library is now accepting applications from adults who would like to learn to read, speak and write English. Classes are free of charge and are taught by trained volunteers. It doesn't matter what your native language background is, our tutors can help you. Group classes are available weekdays and evenings. Please ask us for an application form. Once your application is submitted, you will be contacted by our Literacy Coordinator and matched to the correct class. New classes will begin soon! La biblioteca de North Channel está aceptando aplicaciones para adultos que quieren aprender a leer, hablar, y escribir en Ingles. Clases son gratis y son ensenados por voluntarios entrenados. No importa que lenguaje habla los voluntarios le puedan ayudar. Clases son disponibles durante el día y por la tarde. Por favor pregunte en la biblioteca por una aplicación. El coordinador de programa le hablara unos días después de entregar la aplicación para ponerlo en la clase apropiada. Las clases comenzaran pronto. Para más información por favor de hablarnos a: 281-457-1631

It's time to resolve to bring your children to Story Time on Wednesdays at 11 am and your babies to Baby Time on Thursdays at 11 am! These interactive programs will help the little ones learn hand/eye coordination, how to sing silly songs and the skill of sitting to listen to short, interesting stories. If you need more information on these programs, please see the Branch Calendar (above) or  call us: 713-450-0982
