EXERCISE @ YOUR LIBRARY!

Need to shape up in the New Year? In addition to checking out an exercise book or video, consider volunteering at the North Channel Library. You can see all our new books and DVD's as you lift and shelve them! This will increase your mental AND physical agility! We are looking for the few, the proud, the brave adults who can help us shelve materials weekday mornings. Ask for Christina or Carolyn to volunteer. Start your day out right with a Library workout!

LEARN ARABIC @ YOUR LIBRARY

Are you interested in learning the Arabic language? Then come to the North Channel Library this Saturday, January 16th,  at 11 am. We have a volunteer instructor who speaks and writes the Arabic language fluently. If enough people come to show an interest in learning Arabic, we will schedule more classes. Make your participation count! See you @ the Library this Saturday!

NEW DRAFT PERMIT @YOUR LIBRARY!

Because the North Channel Library receives new draft permits for review, we want to share one with you. Draft TPDES Permit - Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 285 dated November 2009 is now available for your review. This and other permits are kept in the Ready Reference shelving area near the Consumer Reports magazines and books. What caught my eye on this draft is that it involves Carpenter's Landing Bayou-our next door neighbor! If you are interested in the water quality of our local bayou, you might want to read this draft. A comment period is now in effect on this amendment to the original permit granted to M.U.D. 285-Plant 2. Stop by to review this important document soon!

Thanks to U. S. Representative Ted Poe, we have the two volume, 1990 page Health Care Reform Act available at the North Channel Library. These weighty tomes are shelved in the Ready Reference area. You are welcome to take these binders to a table for your reading and research needs. This history making legislation, H. R. 3962, was filed October 29, 2009, in the House of Representatives. Come take a look at the information on one of our most engaging current affairs!

QUIET TIME - A GIFT FROM THE SEA

As you hustle and bustle about, making ready for the upcoming holidays, take a moment for quiet reflection this week. Join us for the North Channel Book Club meeting on Wednesday, November 18th at 10 am. We will be discussing the timeless classic, Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Even though this book was published more than 50 years ago, the writer's insights into the needs of the everyday woman are as current today as when she first shared them. Find a place of your own for some quiet time! Join us for hot tea and cookies! For more information, please call: 281-457-1631
