Tool Checkout & Raffle

Saturday, July 13 from 10 am to 3 pm the Baldwin Boettcher Library will be giving away a free book with a tool checkout.  Those who checkout a tool will be entered into a raffle to win a beautiful hanging basket generously donated by Plants For All Seasons. Please note that the tool checkout is for 2 weeks only and the tools must be returned to the same location which is Baldwin Boettcher Library inside Mercer Botanic Gardens.  It is a great time of year to get some extra work done in your yard, and garden, so we hope you will participate in this wonderful service.  We hope to see you all Saturday!

Thomas the Snakeman is Coming!

Thomas the Snakeman will be visiting the Baldwin Boettcher Library on Wednesday, July 10 at 10:30 am.  Come join us under the Tree House inside Mercer Botanic Gardens to learn about snakes and get the opportunity to see and touch them.  This children’s program is for ages 5 to 12 years, and no registration is necessary.  We hope to sssssssssee you tomorrow!

Japanese Language Classes 4 Weeks in July

The Baldwin Boettcher Branch Library will be having four beginning Japanese Language Classes for the public starting on Tuesday, July 9th at 5:30 pm.  There will be 4 consecutive classes each Tuesday, July 9, 16, 23, and 30.  Learn the basics of the Japanese language, and culture and participate in a weekly craft. Registration limit is twenty and the class is free.  It will take place each week, under the Tree House of Mercer Botanic Gardens.  You can register on line while there are spots available at hcpl.net, or you can simply call us at 832-927-5480.  Attendees are required to attend all four classes.  We hope you will join us for these wonderful classes taught by Ms. Shamguchi.  

Library Closed July 4th


The Baldwin Boettcher Branch Library inside Mercer Botanic Gardens will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day.  Mercer Botanic Gardens will be open, so you will have access to the book drop to return books.  We will reopen on Friday, July 5th at 10 a. m. for our usual hours the rest of the week.   We hope all of you in the community have a wonderful and safe 4th of July!

Paint by Number Was a Big Hit

Wednesday at the Little Blue Library


Today is Wednesday, June 26th and the Little Blue Library inside Mercer Botanic Gardens has 2 adult programs in store for you.  First at 11 am we will have Spin-a-Yarn.  It takes place at the Mercer Botanic Center, and the address there is 22540 Aldine Westfield Rd.  If you like to knit, crochet, craft, stitch, and chat, then this is the group for you.  Later in the day at 5 pm we have our Word Crafters writing group meeting.  It takes place in the Starbucks at 1960 and Aldine Westfield Rd.  If you like to write or would like to start, come join us!  To see what programs we have coming up, please check our events calendar at hcpl.net, or just come by and see us at the Little Blue Library inside Mercer Botanic Gardens.  We would love to see you there!

Kid's Cafe at the Little Blue Library

Do not forget the Baldwin Boettcher Library is hosting Kid’s Café’ at noon Monday through Friday each week through the summer.  Come enjoy a delicious and nutritious free lunch provided by the Houston Food Bank.  It takes place under the Tree House and is for kids and their accompanying adult.   

Tween Readers' Book Club Today @4pm

Today is Monday, June 24 and the Baldwin Boettcher Library’s Tween Readers’ Club will be meeting at 4 pm to discuss the book “The Vanderbeekers and the Hidden Garden” by Karina Yan Glaser.  It will take place under the Tree House.  This program is for ages 9 to 12 years and will also have a delicious snack, so come join us!  To see what programs, we have coming up please check our events calendar at hcpl.net or just come by and see us at the Little Blue Library inside Mercer Botanic Gardens.  We would love to see you there!

Fun Summer Programs at the Little Blue Library

The Little Blue Library inside Mercer Botanic Gardens has lots of programs going on right now for the whole family.  Today we had Space Seeds, for kids ages 9 to 11 years.  We learned about seeds and plants grown in space, and the importance of being able to grow vegetation even in outer space.  Tomorrow, Thursday June 20th we will have a program for teens, called Element Jar Necklace for ages 11 to 18 years.  With a little science and fun, we will take a tiny bottle and fill it with an element of our own making and wear it or share it.  This program will take place under the Tree House at 1:30 pm.  For more information on these programs, please call Victoria at 832-927-5480.  To see what other programs we have coming up, please check our events calendar at hcpl.net, or just come by and

Monday ESL Class
