Recipe for "Microwave Kale Chips" courtesy of the Children's Garden Club

Children from the Tomball Library Children's Garden Club learned to use Kale grown straight from the garden to create a delicious snack chip just as delicious and much more nutritious than regular potato chips. With no oven in the library the challenge was on to create chips that tasted like they had been baked in the oven, with nothing but a microwave. After much experimentation with various online recipes the following method was finally chosen creating perfectly crisp and crunchy Kale chips that were enjoyed by the children, teen volunteers and staff.  Here is how you can make them at home.

SALSA PARTY FOR KIDS: THURS. SEPT 8TH AT 10:30 AM

Join us on Thursday, September 8th at 10:30 am with salsa dance lessons, games and snacks in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.  Kids of all ages are welcome. This program will take the place of our regularly scheduled "free play" this week.

Summer Reading Program 2011: Picture Highlights

Back to School Storytime: Tuesday, August 16th at 10:30

As summer draws to a close, please join us on August 16th at 10:30 am for a special back to school preschool storytime. Our craft for the week will be a "lacing shoe" for kids to decorate and to practice learning to tie their own shoes. We wil read stories which will hopefully ease the separation anxiety they may experience on the first day of school this fall. I look forward to seeing you all there .

PUPPET PIZZAZ EXTRAVAGANZA: AUG. 2ND AT 3 PM

Kids, join us on August 2nd at 3 pm for a Puppet Pizzaz Extravaganza with Mr. Greg Ruhe  for our final SRP program this year. Tickets can be picked up at the information desk 1 hour before the program.  Mr. Ruhe has been delighting children in schools and libraries in the Houston area for the past 20 years with his puppets. This show is sure to be a lot of fun so we look forward to seeing you all there. Because of limited space, children must be old enough to sit through a program without a parent.

Both CyFair ISD and Katy ISD include a list of recommended Summer reading on their websites categorized by grade level. These books fly off the shelf during the summer time so make sure to put your requests in as soon as possible. Ronald McDonald Makes It Magic at Bear Creek

Bear Creek kicked off SRP 2011 with its first summer program on June 7th. Ronald McDonald entertained over 100 children with his "Ronald Makes It Magic" show. Check out the pictures below .

Bear Creek Children's Summer Program Fliers Available

2011 Children's Summer Reading Program fliers are now available for pick up from the Bear Creek Branch Library. Pick one up today.

Ronald McDonald will be here for our first special program performance on Tuesday, June 7th at 3 pm and 4 pm. Tickets will be available 1 hour before each show while supplies last. Children must be at least 5 years old and able to attend the program without a parent due to limited space.
