Tomball Children's Garden Club Spring Planting

The Kids Garden Club at the Tomball Library has resumed meetings for the Spring season. Two rows of okra were planted for a summer crop and the kids made salad and a dressing with the salad greens that were grown over the winter break. Garden Club meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month between last and first freezes of the year. This Spring we will work on the Ecology and Environmental Horticulture Certificate of their Golden Ray Series of the Junior Master Gardener Program. All children 5-12 are welcome to participate but must register no earlier than the Monday of the previous week. Registration is limited to 10 children per meeting. Please call 832-559-4235 for more information or to register.

Recipe for "Microwave Kale Chips" courtesy of the Children's Garden Club

Children from the Tomball Library Children's Garden Club learned to use Kale grown straight from the garden to create a delicious snack chip just as delicious and much more nutritious than regular potato chips. With no oven in the library the challenge was on to create chips that tasted like they had been baked in the oven, with nothing but a microwave. After much experimentation with various online recipes the following method was finally chosen creating perfectly crisp and crunchy Kale chips that were enjoyed by the children, teen volunteers and staff.  Here is how you can make them at home.

Dance Dance Revolution at the Library

Kids, join us after school this Thursday as we play dance dance revolution on the Playstation. After playing and working up an appetite refreshments will be served.

January Storytimes

January is one of the coldest months of the year, but that doesn't mean you have to be stuck at home watching T.V. All of the children's programs this month encourage lots of participation in physical activity. Stories read at regular storytimes will all be interactive, inviting you to get up and dance, stretch, shake and be silly. So put on your tennis shoes and comfortable clothes and join us for some fun and energetic play at the library.

Story times for Christmas and New Year's weeks

Because the library will be closed on Thursday, December 24th in observance of Christmas Eve, there will be no storytime on that day. There will, however be regular storytimes for babies and toddlers on Wednesday morning and Thursday morning storytime for toddlers and preschool age children will resume on Thursday, December 31st.

Mrs. Kringle pays a visit

Mrs. Kringle flew in all the way from the North Pole last week to read and sing Christmas carols with a foom full of girls and boys at Spring Branch Memorial Library. Following story time, cookies and eggnog were served. Lots of pictures were taken with Mrs. Kringle while she heard many Christmas wishes that she will deliver to Santa personally when she returns to the North Pole from her Houston trip.
