Children's Storytimes in April

April is around the corner and the children's department has all sort of fun and exciting themes planned for the upcoming months. Spring themes for April include chicks & eggs, bunnies, rainbows and trees. Toddler and preschool storytimes are always followed by a craft. Check the event calendar for details.

Preschool Picassos learn to blow paint.

Bear Creek Children have fun practicing blow painting techniques with India Ink during this week’s Preschool Picassos. If you missed the fun, check out this link for how to try blow painting at home.

Things that are Green

Wear something green next week as we celebrate the week of St. Patrick's Day by reading stories about "things that are green". While I can give my word not to pinch any small children  , I cannot speak for those more mischievous than myself.

Dr. Seuss Birthday celebration

Bear Creek preschoolers made their own rascally Cat in the Hat  craft during storytime this past Tuesday in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ 106th birthday.

Come help us celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday (Mar. 2nd)

Come join on March 2nd during preschool storytime next week as we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss with a special appearance from the Cat from The Cat in The Hat. Listen as the Cat reads Dr. Seuss stories, make a craft and and browse through a special display of Dr. Seuss books and movies. All of your favorites will be available for checkout...and perhaps a few you've never heard of!

New Children's Librarian

I am pleased and excited to introduce myself as the new children's librarian at the Katherine Tyra Branch Library. Although I am not new to Harris County libraries, I have only been a children's librarian at Bear Creek a little less than a month. In that short period of time, I have met many of the regular Bear Creek customers and families and look forward to getting to  know all of you. If you haven't already done so, please stop by and say "hi" because I'd love to meet you and hear your thoughts on how the children's department can keep the Bear Creek library a welcoming, supportive and FUN place for kids.

Dance Dance Revolution at the Library

Kids, join us after school this Thursday as we play dance dance revolution on the Playstation. After playing and working up an appetite refreshments will be served.

January Storytimes

January is one of the coldest months of the year, but that doesn't mean you have to be stuck at home watching T.V. All of the children's programs this month encourage lots of participation in physical activity. Stories read at regular storytimes will all be interactive, inviting you to get up and dance, stretch, shake and be silly. So put on your tennis shoes and comfortable clothes and join us for some fun and energetic play at the library.

Story times for Christmas and New Year's weeks

Because the library will be closed on Thursday, December 24th in observance of Christmas Eve, there will be no storytime on that day. There will, however be regular storytimes for babies and toddlers on Wednesday morning and Thursday morning storytime for toddlers and preschool age children will resume on Thursday, December 31st.

Mrs. Kringle pays a visit

Mrs. Kringle flew in all the way from the North Pole last week to read and sing Christmas carols with a foom full of girls and boys at Spring Branch Memorial Library. Following story time, cookies and eggnog were served. Lots of pictures were taken with Mrs. Kringle while she heard many Christmas wishes that she will deliver to Santa personally when she returns to the North Pole from her Houston trip.
