Kids Get Healthy at the North Channel Library

hcphesStarting this Friday, July 8th, the North Channel Library is partnering with Harris County Public Health & Environmental Services (HCPHES) for a free healthy living program for children, We Can! (Ways to Enhance Children's Activity & Nutrition). We Can! is a National Institutes of Health educational program designed to give parents, caregivers, and entire communities a way to help children and adolescents learn about choosing healthy food and increasing physical activity all while having fun! Healthy snacks will be provided and there will be chances to win awesome prizes!

We invite you to participate in this fun, interactive program at the library on the following Fridays: July 8, July 15, July 22, July 29 and August 5th from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. You must attend the first program on July 8th to register. The program is aimed at parents and children ages 5-18.

ESL Tutor Training at North Channel Library

tutor trainingAre you interested in helping your neighbors learn English? Become a volunteer ESL tutor at Harris County Public Library. No teaching experience necessary. We provide the space and materials. You provide the time and the desire to help.

North Channel Library will be hosting an ESL Tutor Training session Saturday, July  23rd from 10 am to 3 pm. To register, call 713-274-6600.

Book Sale this weekend at North Channel Library

book saleCome shop at the Friends of the North Channel Library Book Sale! The book sale will be this Friday, July 1st from 2:30 pm to 6 pm and all day Saturday, July 2nd. All proceeds from the sale go directly to the North Channel Library to fund various library needs, such as children's programs, books and other items.

Ask A Lawyer at North Channel Library

lawyerOur popular "Ask A Lawyer" program will be held this Saturday, June 11th from 11 am - 12:30 pm in our Meeting Room.  This free legal clinic is presented by Angela D. Johnson, Attorney at Law.  Ms. Johnson will be answering legal questions and addressing issues that are important to the community.  Please join us for a chance for some free legal guidance.

Summer Lunches at North Channel Library

Houston Food BAnkFree hot lunches for any child up to 18 years old will be served at the North Channel Library starting Monday, June 6th. Lunches will be served over the summer on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 1 pm to 2 pm.  Meals are provided by the Houston Food Bank Summer Food Service Program. Pokémon Club this Saturday

pokemonKids, come to our Pokémon Club this Saturday, May 28th at 3:00 pm and explore all things Pokémon! Themed activities include movies, crafts, and games. Don't forget your Nintendo DS games & devices to play or share,& cards or other themed items. Refreshments provided.

Eary Voting at North Channel Library

votingEarly Voting for the run-off Democratic and Republican Party Primary Elections are taking place all week at the North Channel Branch Library.  The Early Voting hours of operation are:

May 16th – May 20th: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm

If you are registered to vote in Harris County, you may vote at any Harris County Early Voting location.  More information about early voting may be found at the County Clerk voting website

Strings Attached @ North Channel Library this Wednesday

knittingEveryone is invited to stop by North Channel Library and learn how to knit, to crochet or suggest a needle craft we can all learn about together.  Don't know how?  Supplies are available for those just wanting to try it out.  Share your knowledge with others and show off your current projects.  Join Strings Attached at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, April 6th, in the meeting room.

Eat, Play, Grow at North Channel!

hcphesHarris County Public Health & Environmental Service (HCPHES) is partnering with North Channel Library during our Preschool Storytime to bring you Eat, Play, Grow, a nutrition and physical activity education program for parents and children. Kids and families will learning about choosing healthy foods, increasing physical activity, and having fun!

Registration will be April 5th at 1:30 and sessions will be held once a week from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.

Library Closed During Easter Holiday

bunnyIn observance of the Easter holiday, the North Channel Library will close at 5 pm on Thursday, March 24th and will remain closed until Monday, March 28th @ 1 pm. But don’t fret, you can still access our downloadable digital material even while waiting for the Easter Bunny! Check out the books, music, magazines, graphic novels and movies you can download for free all the time here.
