Eat, Play, Grow at North Channel!

hcphesHarris County Public Health & Environmental Service (HCPHES) is partnering with North Channel Library during our Preschool Storytime to bring you Eat, Play, Grow, a nutrition and physical activity education program for parents and children. Kids and families will learning about choosing healthy foods, increasing physical activity, and having fun!


Registration will be April 5th at 1:30 and sessions will be held once a week from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.

Library Closed During Easter Holiday

bunnyIn observance of the Easter holiday, the North Channel Library will close at 5 pm on Thursday, March 24th and will remain closed until Monday, March 28th @ 1 pm. But don’t fret, you can still access our downloadable digital material even while waiting for the Easter Bunny! Check out the books, music, magazines, graphic novels and movies you can download for free all the time here.

Monday Movie Madness @ North Channel Library

The good dinosaurStart off your Spring Break with a movie at the North Channel Library! Join us this Monday, March 14th @ 2:30 PM for a viewing of The Good Dinosaur. Don't forget your pillows, blankets and snacks. We'll  project the movie on our big screen in the Public Meeting Room. For more information please call North Channel Branch at (281) 457-1631. This feature is 1 hour 41 minutes in length and is rated PG.

Early Voting begins February 16th

votingEarly Voting for the Democratic and Republican Party Primary Elections begin tomorrow at the North Channel Branch Library.  The Early Voting hours of operation are:

February 16th - February 19th: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

February 20th: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm

February 21st: 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm

February 22nd - February 26th: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm

If you are registered to vote in Harris County, you may vote at any Harris County Early Voting location.  More information about early voting may be found at the County Clerk voting website harrisvotes.com.

Free GED Distance Learning Program @ North Channel Library

Harris County Public Library is partnering with the Harris County Department of Education, Adult Education to present a free online distance learning program for area residents who want to earn their GED. Distance education programs allow you to learn at your own pace and to work on any computer with an internet connection. The North Channel Branch Library will host Registration and Orientation for the program on the following days:

March 21st
April 4th
April 18th

AARP Tax Assistance Starts February 4th

taxesIt’s tax time again and that means it’s time to welcome back AARP to the North Channel Library starting February 4th .  AARP will be offering free tax assistance every Thursday from 12pm to 4pm From February 4th through April 14th. Sign-up begins at 10am Thursday mornings only.  Please bring your tax return from last year as well as your W-2's and other papers for this year. The Travelling Naturalist @ North Channel Library

Start off your Christmas vacation with a visit from The Traveling Naturalist on Monday, December 21st @ 2:30 pm. Ms. Raven is back with more animals from Deussen Park! In this program, children will able to touch animals described in the program at the end. All ages welcome. Groups please call.

Santa Claus is coming to the library!

santaThe North Channel Library is welcoming a special visitor this Monday...Santa Claus! Come to the library this Monday, December 14th from 6 pm to 7 pm and meet our favorite jolly guy! Don't forget to bring your camera!

Ask A Lawyer at North Channel

legalOur popular "Ask A Lawyer" program will be held this Saturday, December 12th from 11 am - 12:30 pm in our Meeting Room.  This free legal clinic is presented by Angela D. Johnson, Attorney at Law.  Ms. Johnson will be answering legal questions and addressing issues that are important to the community.  Please join us for a chance for some free legal guidance.

ESL Tutor Training

tutorHelp some of your neighbors to happier, more productive lives. Become a volunteer ESL tutor at HCPL. No teaching experience necessary. We provide the space and materials. You provide the time and the desire to help.

North Channel Library will be hosting an ESL Tutor Training session Friday, December 18th from 9:30 to 2:30 pm. To register, call 713-274-6600.
