Return of Senior Classic Movie Morning in September

On Thursday, September 1, Senior Classic Movie Morning will return to the Barbara Bush Branch Library with a war drama from 1948 starring Clark Gable, Van Johnson and Walter Pidgeon.  "General Casey of the U. S. Army Air Forces in England must fight congressional representatives and his own chain of command to be allowed to complete an important mission."  The movie is scheduled to start at 10:00 am  in the Earl Elliott Meeting Room on the first floor.  The library is at 6817 Cypresswood Drive in Spring.

Blood Drive at the Barbara Bush Branch Library

Barbara Bush Branch Library will hold a Blood Drive on Tuesday, August 2, 10:00 am to 2:30 pm.  To schedule an appointment, visit  www.giveblood.org and login to Digital Donor. Great Books

The Great Books discussion group that meets at the Barbara Bush Public Library every third Monday evening at 7:00--9:00 pm is starting a new series in July.  The new study involvdes a different reading each month.  Selections include John Dewey, Shakespeare, and Willian James. Digital Media Catalog Demo

 Did you buy an e-reader recently?  If you have a Nook or a Sony Reader, for  example, you can download e-books from the Harris County Public Library's Digital Media Catalog. (sorry but the Kindle won't be compatible until later this year).  Did you receive an iPad or an iPhone recently?  You can also learn how to download e-books from the Digital Media Catalog to devices like these at the Demo on Friday, July 8@ 11:00 am.  Please call 281-376-4610 to register.  Registration is required.

Quilt Exhibit in Glass Showcase

                            Kai Houston-Guy, a native Californian, was bitten by the quilting bug almost 15 years ago.  She took up quilting in an effort to quit  smoking and it became an all consuming passion.  Since then she has left traditional quilts behind and taken up the art quilt.

Her current work emphasizes color and form.  She alters commercial fabric that she paints, stamps, or dyes and then cuts into smaller units.  The units are then reassembled into quilts that reflect the current season in her life---a precarious balance on the edge of an almost empty nest, middle age and abstract representations of nature and human form.

Spanish Classes

Free Spanish Classes at the Barbara Bush Branch Library on Thursday,  2:00 to 4:00 pm.  No need to register. Class is free and open to adults. If you have any questions, drop by at class time and speak to our volunteer tutor. Come and learn a new language.

Free Business Consulting

Vijay Patel, a volunteer, is offering free consulting to anyone interested in starting or operating a small business. 

Mr. Patel has worked for HP for 20 years and has knowledge of the computer and hospitality industries, as well as, incorporation, marketing and finance for business.

He will be in the WCR Meeting Room on the 2nd floor on Fridays from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. No registration required.

Barbara Bush Library Friends Annual Meeting

Our featured speaker will be Melissa Williams, author of the 'Iggy the Iguana" and "Turtle Town" series and founder of the literacy foundation, READ3Zero, and the leader of creative writing workshops for children and teens.

Come join us to celebrate the success of the Friends Activities over the last year.  Books purchased for the library will be on display. Light refreshment will be served.

The Adult/Senior Games Morning will meet in the Earl Elliott Meeting Room on the first floor from 10:30 to Noon.
