Great Books Discussion

The Great Books Discussion Group will meet in the WCR Conference Room. The Group meets on the third Monday of each month from 7:00--8:45 pm.  This month they will meet on December 17.  Please call Ed Boran at 281-353-1450 for information.  The title for this month is The Spirit of Capitalism by Max Weber.

Genealogical Research Database Demo

Come and Explore HeritageQuest and Ancestry.com on Friday, December 7 @ 11:00 am in the computer lab at the Barbara Bush Branch Library.  This class is now offered once a month.  Call for the schedule.  These classes are popular so registration is required.  You can register by going online to www.hcpl.net or calling 281-376-4610.  Registration opens 30 days before class.

Seniors 60+ Computer Help

Are you 60+ and having trouble getting started with a computer?  Drop in to the Senior Help Session at the Barbara Bush Branch Library Friends Computer Lab on the first and third Tuesday of each month.  Our volunteer, Patsy will be here from 10:00 am to Noon to give you some assistance.  No registration required.  Meet other seniors and share your computer experiences.  The library is at 6817 Cypresswood Drive in Spring.

Happy Thanksgiving

All Harris County Public Libraries will be closed for the Thanksgiving  weekend.  The libraries will close at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 21 and re-open at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 26.

Senior Classic Movie Morning

On Friday, November 9, 2012 the Barbara Bush Branch Library will have another Senior Classic Movie Morning.  We will show a film from 1956 starring Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn.  "A Cinderella story about an inconspicuous salesgirl who is whisked off to Paris by a group of fashion magazine sophisticates and transformed into a dazzling model with whom the magazine's photographer falls in love." Senior Classic  Movie Morning will be the 2nd Friday of each month.  The movie will start shortly after 10:00 am  and will usually end around Noon.  Come with a friend or meet a new friend.

Workforce Solutions Job Search Seminars at the Library

Workforce Solution will bring their job search seminars back to the library this fall.  They offer several different programs from making a job search plan, to writing a resume, and classes on how to score well at the interview.  The next session will be on Thursday, November 1, at 1:30--3:30 pm, Networking, using the Internet and social networking for your job search.  No registration is necessary.  Just drop in.  The programs will be helped in the Earl Elliott Meeting Room of the Barbara Bush Branch Library at 6817 Cypresswood Drive in Spring.

Senior Classic Movie Morning

On Friday, October 12, the Barbara Bush Branch Library will have another Senior Classic Movie Morning.  We will show a classic horror film from 1931 starting Bela Lugosi.  "The castle stands in the shadows of the Carpathian Mountains, a symbol of fear and suspicion to the villagers who live in the valley below.  Real estate agent Renfield (Dwight Frye) journeys to the castle to conclude a business transaction with its elusive owner.  Tension mounts as Renfield learns the truth about his mysterious host and succumbs to his will to become his mindless victim"

Green Magazine Exchange Center

The Barbara Bush Branch Library has a place for your recent, but read magazines.  Bring in your old magazines to share with others.  Please bring only magazines published in 2011 or 2012.  Feel free to take as many as you bring in (or more).  The rack is at the top of the stairs on the 2nd floor of the library.  The library is at 6817 Cypresswood Drive in Spring.
