BOOKS CAN BE LIFE CHANGING

One of my favorite authors is Pat Conroy.  I have always enjoyed letting him carry me away on the stories he writes.  I get wrapped up in the characters and the story itself.  Many of the people in his books are people I feel I know or have met in my life.

Pat Conroy is passionate about his work.  You can feel the passion as you read his books.  In reading his latest book I find he is passionate about reading, books, libraries, stories and the people who write them.   He shares how his mother influenced him from an early age to read.  Certain teachers encouraged him to read.  Libraries gave him access to read.

His life was changed by books and authors, helping him become the writer he is today.

Do you like to keep a list of the books you have read?  Is your notebook getting too big to carry?  Have you ever found yourself at the library and left your list at home?

FRIENDS OF THE MAUD SMITH MARKS LIBRARY BOOK SALE BARGAIN

Are you looking for a bargain?  We’ve got the best deal in town.  Nothing over $1.00.

The Friends of the Maud Smith Mark’s Library are having a book sale on Saturday, June 25th starting at 10:00 A.M.

I would just like to brag on this special group of volunteers for a little bit.  It takes a lot of time and energy to sort, store, set up, and sell the books for these sales.   I estimate about 1,000 volunteer  hours  to maintain the book sales throughout the year.

COMPUTER SKILLS ACQUIRED AT LIBRARY

As a Maud Marks patron I am happy to say that my computer skills have improved as I navigate through the databases.  I have been able to make requests from Harris County libraries as well as InterLibrary Loan.  I have been able to read many more of the Spanish language books I am interested in through this service.

YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU MIGHT SEE AT THE MAUD MARKS LIBRARY

Everyday is a new day.  Everyday is a new surprise and adventure. Today we had a larger than life chicken.  All you had to do was follow the trail of feathers to our children's storytime.  Who knows what we will have tomorrow.  We always have a little something for the young and old and in-between. Come on over and see for yourself.

CHARITY, LIBRARIAN AND A RENAISSANCE WOMAN

I would describe our Children's Librarian, Charity James, as a real Renaissance Woman.  She is a person of expertise that spans a significant number of different subjects.  Charity has been at the Maud Smith Marks Library going on 9 years.  She is known for her skills as a Children's Librarian and her love of children of all ages.  I thought you might like to know that she got her Masters of Library and Information Science at UT-Austin.  Her undergraduate study was music, which she still uses in her storytimes.  She is a member of the Ft Bend Symphony.  Her taste in music is very eclectic.  You never know what she will be listening to next.  She enjoys Swing dancing, and has been a member of a Renaissance Dancing Troup.  Her seamtress skills have been used to make her attire for the troup and all the costumes  her 2 daughters have needed through the years. Charity is particularly interested in retro designs o
