Mondays with Matzke!

Matzke SignMondays are Matzke Nights here at Northwest Library! Several of the dedicated teachers have gladly taken up residence here over the summer!  These upstanding professionals meet with their students every Monday in the library's Children's Area from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. They will be here all summer long. Several families have gotten library cards and learned all about our programming while meeting up with their favorite teachers. We are proud to partner with CyFair on this new endeavor! 

A Genealogy Family Reunion Affair : An Evidence Based Approach

Kimberly GayCome to the Harris County Public Library on Regency Green to be enlightened on the "Best Practices" in researching genealogy resources. Academic Reference Librarian Kimberly Gay will address, discuss and exchange innovative ways with library patrons who are seeking information on evidence-based historical and genealogical research records and repositories for Africa Diaspora, Native Americans, Hispanic and Mexican, Asian and Anglo-Saxon Genealogy. Participants are encouraged to bring examples of their genealogy researching to share. Ms. Gay will provide a research framework about online and print resources and how to navigate through various methods.

Mystery Craft Bag Pick Up

Grab BagThis summer the library will be giving away Mystery Bags with assorted craft kits inside! Take your craft to go! The giveaway days are Mondays starting at 3:00 pm. We will give out 50 bags on a first come, first serve basis! All ages are welcome. Note, kits may include small parts and require parental supervision. Come and solve the mystery!

Come any Saturday and talk to our eBook experts, Chris and Gwendolyn. Bring your device and we will help you set it up and show you how to use our collection! Times for one-on-one tutoring are 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM! If you don't own a device and just want to see how they work, come on in and we'll show you that, too!

Computer Classes for Adults - Free! Free! Free!

Computer ClassDid you know the library offers FREE computer classes for Adults? All you have to do is come to the library at 12:00 noon each Wednesday and meet with our Reference Librarian, Gwendolyn. She teaches a new topic each class and no registration is required. So, if you are looking to gain those basic computing skills, why not give it a try? 

Calling All Teens Summer Volunteers!!

Volunteer TodayAre you thinking ahead and looking for a place to volunteer this summer? Come to an orientation and learn more. Sessions are held the first Thursday of each month at 4:00 pm. If you are under 18, be sure to have your parent or guardian complete the application in advance. Volunteer hours are flexible! We hope to see you there.  

Adult Fiction News Alert!

Fiction AreaJust a little note to let folks know that the genres (i.e. mystery, westerns and science fiction) are now part of the larger fiction collection. What does that really mean? If you are looking for James Patterson or Janet Evanovich, you only have to look in ONE place! Every book they wrote will be right next to each other. If you are looking for the just your favorite genre, they are still really easy to find. The book labels will guide you and they are all clearly marked!  If ever you have a question, please come to the desk. We are always happy to help!  

Tech Tutors In Action

Reference Librarian Gwendolyn teaches patron how to download eBooks.Today the library celebrated Read an eBook Week at our one-on-one Tech Tutors Table. Patrons have been stopping by all day to get their specific questions answered. Many folks didn't know they could use their library cards to download free eBooks! If you missed the tutoring session, stop by the information desk for assistance. Also, online assistance is available. Why not celebrate with us and check out an eBook today. They are free with your library card!

Giddy Up, Camel?!?

camelLooking for something fun and unconventional to do this Spring Break? Why not come to the library and go on a camel ride? Yes, that's right. Thanks to the Friends of the Northwest Library, on Monday, March 12th at 3:00 PM, the library will have an actual camel, ready to ride! Stay for crafts, meet Menchie and experience other Spring Break fun!
