Send Seasonal Wishes to Afghanistan. Holiday Cards for the Marines Collected.

Fourth of July Pictures

Did you draw a picture for our Marine Unit to celebrate the Fourth of July this past summer? Well, we heard back from them. They very much enjoyed your thoughts and pictures. They even sent us a few photos of your drawings hanging in their barracks! This time we are collecting drawings and holiday cards to send in time for December. So get out those markers and crayons and get creative. We will need the cards by the end of October; the sooner the better so we can ensure they get there in time for Christmas. Why not take a moment and send a Marine a little bit of holiday happiness!

Viva Panama!

FlagWhile on a recent visit home to Panama, Northwest Library Patron and Community Educator, Nidya Pitti Granadino, worked with several local children in preparation for the wonderful art show that is currently being installed in the library. On Saturday, November 19th at 2:00 PM, Nidya will be at our library to discuss the beautiful country of Panama! Learn about the food, the folks and the cultural importance of Panama on our greater global community. Also, this year we invite the children of Northwest Library to draw pictures for the children of Panama. We will be collecting artwork from the patrons of Northwest with the theme of "Where I Live." So if you would like your children's artwork to go to Panama, drop it off at the library!

Librarian Gwendolyn Celebrates 15 Years of Service!

GwenJoin me in congratulating Librarian Gwendolyn on her 15 years of service to the the Harris County Public Library system! While some at Northwest Branch might have only known Gwendolyn for the four years here at our library; she has been developing her vast library knowledge at our Administration Offices for the 11 years prior to coming out the this area of town. She is an asset to our branch and the library system as a whole. You may have met her at Computer Class (Wednesdays @ 12 PM) or at one of her two book clubs (Mondays @ 2 PM). Maybe, she signed you up for Adult Summer Reading or you worked with her via our Volunteer Program. She may have been the one to give you an eBook tutorial or helped you set up an email account. Congrats to you, Librarian Gwendolyn, on your service anniversary!

Ask Any of Us!

Gwen and Connie Help at New DeskIf you have stopped by the branch lately, you were sure to notice there are no longer two separate help desks. We have combined Reference and Circulation Services into one area. Feel free to ask anyone behind the desk your questions. All of us will be able to help you find a book, check out materials or get a library card!  Also, be sure to check out our new Adult Reading Area. We have added some comfy furniture that is sure to delight. Pick out a good book and stay awhile! Enjoy... it's your library!

Now you see me. Now you don't.

Book CoverJoin us for a discussion of the classic H.G. Wells novel The Invisible Man on Monday, September 26th at 2:00 PM. On the surface, this novel seems like your typical Science Fiction adventure story. But, we will discuss what makes it classic. Why has it held the test of time? And what makes the characters and the notion of invisibility an everlasting phenomenon? The notion graces the pages of Harry Potter even today! Share your thoughts at Book Club! We hope to see you there.
