Would you like to challenge yourself this year by reading in different genres?  Join the Katy Library staff as we attempt to complete Book Riot’s Read Harder Challenge 2016.  The form for the challenge can be found on their website or stop by the library to pick up a form.  Click here to find a list of suggested titles provided by NYPL.  Stop by the library and keep us updated on how you are doing.


Do you like to knit or crochet?  Would you like to learn this fun, relaxing craft?  The Katy Knotty and Nice Club is the place to do both.  This fun, lively group meets every Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the library’s meeting room.  Bring your project to work on or bring some yarn and needles, and our experienced knitters will get you started.


Hey, kids, become a Keyboard Ninja!  Learn to type faster instead of hunting and pecking.  Classes begin Thursday, January 7 at 4:15 p.m.  This class will help you when we start our Robotics programs, which will begin soon.    


The Staff at the Katy Branch Library wish you a happy and safe New Year!  The library will close at 5:00 on Thursday, December 31 and remain closed through the weekend.  We’ll reopen on Monday, January 4 at 10:00 a.m. See you in the New Year!


The Katy Branch Library will have storytimes the week of December 28.  We’ll be following our normal schedule as follows.
Baby Time, Monday  10:15 a.m.
Toddlertime, Tuesday  10:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
Preschool Storytime, Thursday  10:15 and 11:00 a.m.

Teens and Tweens bring your creativity to our first ever Christmas themed Lego challenge.  We'll have prizes for the best builds.  The challenge will be held on Tuesday, December 15 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.  For ages 10 and up only.


On December 8 at 5:30 p.m., the teen book group will discuss Kazuo Ishiguro’s, Never Let Me Go.  Haven’t read the book?  Come anyway, enjoy some yummy snacks and share your thoughts on your favorite books.


The Friends of the Katy Branch Library will hold a holiday boutique on Thursday, December 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  The boutique will feature crafts, holiday goodies, and books suitable for holiday gifts.  The Friends provide funding for all programs for the Katy Library.  


Do you need to create a resume that will grab a potential employer’s attention?  The Katy Branch Library will offer a free class on Monday, November 23 at 10:30 a.m. Learn to create a resume using one of the many templates available on Microsoft Word 2013.  Learn how to customize the templates to tailor specific needs as well as learn tips to make yourself stand out to recruiters.  Basic computer skills and Microsoft Word skills are required.  


The Katy Branch Library is celebrating Citizenship Month and the many faces of Houston and Harris County.   Embracing and honoring our diversity is our theme for the month.  Stop by the library to create your own origami butterfly and leave a special message.  Check out our Painted Lady caterpillars who will transform into beautiful butterflies very soon!
