Free Tutorials from GCFLearnFree

books imageGCFLearnFree.org offers free tutorials covering everying from life skills to resume writing.  One of the best feature, the Computer Training section, provides self-paced tutuorials covering the latest Microsoft Office products and web/internet features.  The Online Classes offer the opportunity to earn Continuing Education certificates.  The website if free, but does require a very brief account registration.

Be Aware, Be Prepared - Hurricane Season is Here!

hurricane imageBE AWARE, BE PREPARED.  Come to a presentation on HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS presented at the CyFair College Branch of HCPL on Tuesday, September 22, from 5:30 – 6:30 pm in room 215 of the Library.  The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management will provide tips on how to keep yourself and your family safe and more comfortable should we have to survive a hurricane again this year.  OHSEM will also answer your questions.  The library also has an informative display featuring free brochures on hurricane preparedness and a free hurricane tracking chart to be used on your computer. 

TasteSpotting

TasteSpotting.com offers a visual feast for the eyes which hopefully later translates to deliciousness in your tummy.  TasteSpotting offers a self-proclaimed "highly visual potluck of recipes, references, experiences, stories, articles, products, and anything else that inspires exquisite taste."  All the recipes found on the website are from users (like you or me) who have websites or blogs stuffed with tasty recipes and images.

Register for Free English Classes

The library's free Fall ESL Outreach program will begin on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. 1. checkups when you're well
2. treatment when you're sick
3. complete care when you're pregnant
4. immunizations and checkups for your children
5. dental care and prescription drugs for your family
6. mental health and substance abuse care if you need it

Also, check out RXassist.org to see if you qualify for free or low-cost medications through patient assistance programs run by pharmaceutical companies.
