Genealogy Primer Begins Wednesday !!

The Kingwood Library is hosting a six-week Genealogy Primer for beginners. The series begins this week and will take place each Wednesday in our Computer Lab at 10:30 a.m.  Topics will include census records, land and probate records, historical newspapers, family records, and more!  To register for this free seminar, or for more information, contact the library @ 281-360-6804 or stop by our Adult Services desk.

Become a Volunteer ESL Tutor !!

Have you ever wanted to help someone learn to read, write, and speak English?  If so, there will be a free training for prospective Volunteer ESL Tutors on Thursday, September 12 at 6:00 PM. in the library Meeting Room.  Steve Zach, Harris County Public Library's Literacy Coordinator, will be presenting current teaching methods designed specifically for working with students of English as a second language ("ESL").  For more information, or to register, please call 281-360-6804, or stop by our Adult Services desk.

Want to save money using the web?  Come join us next Tuesday at 2:30 P.M. in our Computer Lab for "Money Saving Websites"!  In this free workshop, our new Technical Trainer, Kesha, will show you how to use websites such as Groupon, Living Social, and Voice Daily Deals!  Self-register online or call the library @ 281-360-6804.

Photography 101: Still Life

Hurricane & Disaster Preparedness!

Hurricane season is upon us!  On Wednesday, August 7 at 6:30 P.M., the Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will be on hand to present "Hurricane & Disaster Preparedness".  This informative program, which will be held in the library Meeting Room, is free and open to the public. 

A Summer Treat for All Ages!!!

Come one, come all to our Teen Game Room this summer for our new line-up of gaming for all ages!  We've opened up our Teen Game Room on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 7:30 PM for all ages, Thursday mornings from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM for families, and Friday mornings from 10:30 - 11:30 AM for adults!  The library's games include the Nintendo Wii and PS3, but gaming enthusiasts may also bring their own games, subject to Game Room rules and Librarian approval. Reception to Celebrate New Hours!!

Don't forget!!  Come join us tomorrow, May 23, for a reception @ 4:00 p.m. to celebrate the library's new extended hours!!  Thanks and congratulations will be in order for Jack Cagle, County Commissioner, and Rhoda Goldberg, Director of the Harris County Public Library, both instrumental in making these new hours a reality.  It will be a special treat to have Ms. Goldberg present, since she will be retiring at the end of May after thirty-seven years of service to Harris County Public Library!
