Peter Fletcher Concert at Evelyn Meador

fletcher

Mr. Fletcher rendered a fine performance of classical guitar music for us this past Tuesday.  He shared music from all across the guitar repertoire, playing compositions by Bach, Albeniz, Paganini, Ravel, Myers and others.

We had a great turnout for the concert and everyone was enthusiastic and appreciative.

Thanks to our Friends Board for making this concert available to the public, and thanks to Mr. Fletcher for sharing your love of the guitar with us!

Classical Guitarist Peter Fletcher Coming to Seabrook

peter

New York-based classical guitarist Peter Fletcher will grace the library with a performance on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 7:00 pm.

Mr. Fletcher began the study of guitar at the age of seven and made his formal debut at fifteen. He has studied under many of the great masters; Jose Tomas, David Leisner, David Russell, Oscar Ghiglia and Pepe Romero. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2007, and returned in 2008, 2009, and 2010 to a completely sold-out house. He will be performing there again in April, 2013.

Mr. Fletcher has also performed extensively on radio and television and has three recordings available which have received critical acclaim.

We are honored to have him perform for us.

A Celebration of Black Cowboys

As February is Black History Month and The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo runs February 25 – March 17th, this seems like a great time to celebrate the contributions of the Black cowboys, who played a huge part in the winning of the west.
Some names may already be familiar to you, such as Nat Love or Bill Pickett; others such as George McJunkin or Bones Hooks may not be.
But whether you are familiar with any of the names or not, there is a wealth of information in the library covering the under-appreciated but fascinating history of the African American settlement in the west and the achievements of the Black cowboys.
There is a little something for everyone, so grab your rodeo boots and hat and check it out at your local branch library!

Now Online! Evelyn Meador Friends' Book Store

amazon

Recently, the Friends of Evelyn Meador created an Amazon account to sell some of their more valuable book store inventory online.  They now have over 200 books on Amazon and are very happy with the way the books are selling.

Remember, if you have books you would like to donate, all money raised by the Friends’ book store goes to support our wonderful Seabrook library.  Book donations can be brought to the book store during normal operating hours.

Friends Board Member, Kathy Viscariello, volunteered to spearhead the new operation. Kathy is hoping to recruit more volunteers to help with this ongoing project. To volunteer to help with the online operation, you can contact Mrs. Viscariello at 832-755-1125 or by email at ky123@yahoo.com.

woolum

Mr. Everett Woolum is a local artist, custom woodworker and antique furniture repairman. He is the founder and owner of Woolum’s Originals. Mr. Woolum says of himself,
“I have lived in Seabrook for forty years or more. My vocation was not art or woodworking, but I have been doing art all my life. My dad was a high school teacher.  We had a shop in the school which I used for woodworking. I taught Industrial and Commercial Electricity at junior college for seventeen years.
I like to do my own mounting and framing for my pictures. I like working in oil, watercolor & acrylic. I paint whatever I find interesting.”
