Storytime in the New Year

Happy New Year Highlands! In case you are wondering, storytimes are the same for 2011.

Baby - 10:15

Toddler - 10:40

Bantam of the Opera

It's time for another performance by the Houston Opera to Go!  Join us at the Highlands Community Center next Monday, January 3rd at 10 am for "Bantam of the Opera."

Bantam of the Opera by Mary Jane Auch
"Luigi is a country rooster who loves singing along with the opera he hears on the radio.  When he sneaks a ride into the city hoping to see a live performance, the star of the show catches a bad case of chicken pox and threatens to cancel the performance!  Could this be Luigi's big break? " (taken from the Storybook Opera Website)

This event is open to all ages and is free to all in attendance. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Family Storytime: Para Los Ninos!

It's time again for our monthly family workshop/storytime: Para Los Ninos! It will be held during our normal toddler storytime this Thursday at 10:40 am.  The theme is "Raise a Reader." If you are curious as to what activities we will do, they can be viewed here , on page 15.

The Para Los Ninos workshops are structured in such a way as to allow parents and children plenty of time after the storytime to participate in and rotate through several activity stations.

See you there!

Para Los Ninos

Please join us this Saturday at noon for this month's Para Los Ninos family program! We will be reading several stories, followed by time for parents to participate in activities with their children. The theme is "Raise a Reader," and we hope you can make it!

Seeds!

If you come and visit us for storytime this week, we will be opening up a pumpkin to check out the seeds and the goo. We will talk about seeds and what grows from them. If you have any interesting seeds at home you would like to show and tell about, please feel free to bring them.  See you there!

Baby Time: 10:15 am

Toddler Time 10:45 am

Halloween at Stratford!

Boo!  It's almost time for Halloween, and in order to celebrate, we will be having a special baby and toddler time next Thursday, October, 28th. So wear your costumes, dress your children up and feel free to bring special snacks (individually wrapped please). We have plenty of trick or treat bags for children to use, or if you would like to bring your own, that is fine too.

We will have time for stories, songs, rhymes and such before trick or treating around the library. This will not be a super scary time. We are aiming for a fun and lighthearted Halloween/Harvest party. It also might be a good idea to talk to your child about costumes before coming, in case they are nervous to see others not looking quite like themselves.

Teen Craft this Saturday

Teen decoupage craft this Saturday, October 16th! 11:30 am. For more information, see here, and for pictures, see here. See you there!

Preschoolers, this is for you!

We have had some interest expressed in a preschool storytime, and we have heard you! We would like to tentatively introduce a new preschool storytime to be held the second Monday evening of every month at 6:30 pm. This upcoming Monday will be our first program.

We will sing songs accompanied by guitar, dance a little, read a few stories, and do a short activity. The program will run for approximately 35-45 minutes.

Monday night is our late night here at the library, and we are open until 8pm.  So bring your little one and come join us for a fun program!

Dr. Seuss Was Here

This past week in Toddler Storytime, we paid a tribute to Dr. Seuss with the book Green Eggs and Ham. We looked at various green vegetables, passed out green (boiled) eggs, and drank phosphorescent green punch. We made some bagel bird feeders for everyone to hang in their yards. Also, since it was one child's birthday his wonderful mom treated us all to green cupcakes! Toddler Storytime is open to all toddlers and their caregivers. Younger siblings may also attend as able/needed.
