Wowbrary Keeps You Up to Date (plus this week's events at Stratford!)

Ever wonder what new books or cds have been recently added to the library collection? Don't have time to browse the individual categories on our website? Or are you a visual person who is drawn in by the cover art? Take a second to check out Wowbrary. Here is a description of Wowbrary's service:

"Wowbrary is a nonprofit service that sends you free weekly emails featuring your public library's most recent acquisitions. We started Wowbrary because we were thrilled when we saw all the wonderful new books, DVDs, and CDs our local library acquires each week, and wanted everyone to discover how great their library is too." (see picture above of email sample)

Ronald McDonald!

This Thursday at Story Time, 10:30 am, we will be visited by the famous Ronald McDonald. He will be performing "Book Time with Ronald McDonald."  For a brief history of the Ronald McDonald house charity, click here. If you are feeling nostalgic for the old McDonalds commercials with Ronald in them, click here or here.  (I believe that a Teletubby might have sneaked into the first commercial.

Storybook Opera this Thursday

The Opera Cat! Ms. Sandra Campbell of Houston's Storybook Opera will be singing a special story for the babies and toddlers this Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Be sure to join us to hear about the cat who loved to sing opera and the night her owner came down with laryngitis! (Children about to enter preschool also welcome)

It's Just About Time...

With hurricane season starting next week, here are some hurricane related titles currently located at Stratford.

For the littler ones, you might be interested in reading Hurricane Wolf by Diane Paterson.

Storytime!

This week in storytime, in addition to our usual songs, stories and fingerplays, we will be making little shakers for a craft. Please join us!

Also, we have received our calendars for the 2010 Texas Summer Reading Program. Come and pick one up today!

Egghead Eggshell Planter

Next week at storytime, we will be creating an "egghead eggshell planter." With an eggshell, we will be creating a little character with grass for hair. We hope to give the little ones a chance to see how a little bit of soil, a little bit of air and water, and a few grass seeds, can bring something out of nothing. Hope you can make it!

Baby/Toddler Storytime: 10:30 am

Close to the countdown to summer...

Are your children counting down the days til school is out? While they are ready to run outside, we are busy here at the library, preparing for the 2010 Summer Reading Program.  We have had questions about our summer calendar, and be assured, they are coming soon. We have lots of fun activities planned....beginning in only 52 days...(not like we are counting or anything).

In the meantime, be sure to drop by our book sale next week!

This Thursday at Stratford and at the San Jacinto Community Center

Happy Birthday Eric Carle!

This Saturday, March 20th, was the birthday of famous author/illustrator Eric Carle. In his honor, we held a special craft and story time. We learned a little bit about this famous man and then took the opportunity to create your own tissue paper collage art.  The program ran for one hour. We will be posting photos soon. Keep an eye out for future art/author programs!

See you soon!

St. Patrick's Day Storytime

Yesterday morning at storytime, we made special St. Patrick's Day shamrock wands. Don't miss next week's storytime! We will sing songs, do fingerplays and read stories around the central theme of farms and farmers. The craft will be Old MacDonald's farm, which you can then take home and be able to sing along to with your children. Hope to see you there!
