Ohayo Gozaimasu! Ready for Anime Club?!

It's Anime club time again!  Come and check out the grand finale of the anime we've been watching and the beginning of a season of a very popular series which has never been seen on American television.  Curious?  Good!  Show up on Monday, December 13th at 4pm to find out what I'm talking about!  As always there will be food and drink for free! Also art supplies will be available for anyone who wants to try their hands at drawing in the anime style.

Harry Potter fun!

On Monday we celebrated the release Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 with a Harry Potter Party.  The library turned into Hogwarts for the afternoon as newly enrolled students participated in potions making, crafts, games and more!  Stay tuned for more exciting programs coming up in the future!

HARRY POTTER PARTY!

On Monday, November 15th at 4pm-6pm Hogwarts will be taking over the Bear Creek library.  Study potions in the Slytherin Common Room; pay games in the Gryffindor Common Room;  talk about the books and movies in the Ravenclaw Common Room; and do crafts in the Hufflepuff Common Room.  There will be a Quidditch match at 5pm on the pitch, so don't be late (all the other activities will be ongoing)!

Let's celebrate the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 together by having lots of magical fun (I know, really bad pun, but I couldn't help myself!)

See you there!

Ask your favorite author a question...

Alright guys!  I am heading to Albuquerque this weekend to attend the Young Adult Literature Symposium.  At this conference there are going to be A LOT of authors. The list of authors is at this link.  Your mission is to give me questions to ask them if I see them.  I will be checking for responses all weekend long.  The main time I  will have an opportunity to see them is Saturday so if you want your questions answered get them to me by then.  Good luck and I promise to take lots of pictures!

No teen time on Monday but you do have a chance to ask your favorite author a question!

Do we want to Rock?!

Pull out your drum sticks and tune your guitars...virtual that is.  We're pulling out the Rock Band for the Wii and are going rock out!  All teens are welcome to find their inner rock star and enjoy the FREE soda and snacks.  Join the part Monday, November 1 at 4pm.

The Raven, Black Cat, & Other Haunting Tales

The Raven, Black Cat, The Tell Tale Heart, The Pit and the Pendulum, Murders in the Rue Morgue, and many, many more.  Edgar Allen Poe wrote some of the most gruesome and let's face it depressing poetry and short stories of any age.  Which makes him absolutely perfect for a program at Halloween.  Come and enjoy the works of Edgar Allen Poe during Teen Time on Monday, October 25th at 4pm.  All teens are welcome, costumes are optional and there will be many, many treats.

TAB!

Hey!  The TAB needs members.  What is the TAB, you may ask?  It is a group of teenagers who advise the library as to what they would like the library to do for teens as well as help out with program preporation and actually helping at children's programs.  The teens earn volunteer hours for school or for wherever else.

On October 28th at 5pm, we have a meeting which the point of will be to prepare decorations for the Harry Potter Party on Nov. 15th and discuss what programs the teens want to have in the library.

If you have anymore questions, just contact me at jfinch@hcpl.net.

Bullying and Tragedy

Recently, much has come out in the news about the dangers of bullying and they have documented several cases of teenagers committing suicide.  Celebrities have come out explaining their pasts of being bullied.  This is not a new problem, bullying has existed in schools for as long as there have been schools.  Only the victims of such torment can truly understand the trauma and tragedy it causes.  What are your stories, and what advice can you offer someone going through it right now?  Here are some stories dealing with suicide and bullying.
