Come visit soon!

We Love Our Friends!

The Barbara Bush Library is very lucky to have a very involved Friends of the Library group. Our Friends help us raise funds for programming and supplies, staff Al & Polly's Bookstore by volunteering, and help us continue to grow with and for our community.

The staff at the Barbara Bush Library would like to take this opportunity to thank our Friends for all the support they provide whether it is funds, volunteer hours, or just being a friendly face. We get by with A LOT of help from our Friends! The next time you visit our library, be sure to stop by the Earl Elliott Meeting Room to see what our staff has written about the Barbara Bush Library Friends!

Evening Book Club

Evening Book Club will be meeting next Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 7pm. Book Club will be meeting in the  Women's Council of Realtors Conference Room on the 2nd floor. We will be discussing The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert.

The Eggs are Here!

Yesterday, the eggs for Project Peep arrived! They are in an incubator located at the Children's Information Desk. Stop on by and check it out!

We also have some egg-cellent programs coming up to help you learn more about Eggs and Chickens.

A Special Note from Margaret to You

It’s been my honor and privilege to serve customers at Harris County Public Library first at Aldine Branch (1976-1983) and then Cypress Creek Branch (1984-2001) and then Barbara Bush Branch (2002-2017).

Some of you have told me that I first helped you at Aldine Branch and some of you have already brought your kids to the library so I could help them find what they needed. Indeed, a longtime HCPL staffer recently told me I helped him at the Cypress Creek Branch back while he was still in high school!

The one constant these past 40 years has been my desire to help customers find the book they were looking for whether it be a current best seller, the next selection for their book club, the biography of the person they need to research for a school assignment, etc. etc. Or the information they needed to start a small business or to draw up their own divorce papers or to change careers, etc. etc.

Meet the Staff: Cathy

In the past months, you may have noticed a new face or two working behind the Information/Customer Service Desks at the Barbara Bush Library. Today, I'd like to introduce to your our new Assistant Branch Manager - Adult Services, Cathy! Cathy was nice enough to answer a few questions about herself so that we could all get to know her a bit better.

What is your position? What are some of your duties?

Coming Soon: Project Peep!

We have eggs-citing news! Project Peep is coming to the Barbara Bush Library!

In March, we will be incubating eggs, watching as they hatch and learning about eggs and chickens in fun programs.
But, we need your help! We are looking for foster parents for the baby chicks. Children must be between 7-12 years old to sign up as a foster parent.

Workforce Solutions - Making Connections

Workforce Solutions will be hosting a free seminar on Making Connections. Join them in the Women's Council of Realtors Conference Room (2nd floor) from 1-3pm for this informative seminar. No registration required.

Programs and services are Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Compliant. Special accommodations can be requested in advance by contacting the library.

Let Your Wand Choose a Book

Staff member, Rebecca, alongside our volunteer, Susan, created an amazing display showcasing read alikes similar to Harry Potter!

If you like Harry Potter, you'll be thrilled to "Let your Wand Choose a Book" for you!

Margaret is retiring!

Everyone knows Margaret Davis as she's been one of the reference librarians at Barbara Bush for 40, yes 40 years! Think how many people she has helped during that time! Well, the unthinkable has happened. Margaret has decided to retire. She will be with us until Feb. 28.

Please help us in wishing her well as she discovers the new chapter in life that is retirement. Cards are provided at the Information Desk upstairs as well as the Customer Service desk.
