Book Club Buzz

stack of booksThe Tomball Library offers a variety of book clubs for those who love discussing what they’ve read. The August books and dates for our book clubs are:

Villain Turned Hero

Devil in WinterOne of my favorite character arcs in a novel or series is the redemption of a previously villainous or selfish character. Romance is full of heroes (and sometimes heroines) that start on the dark side only to be redeemed in the next book by the love they feel for their partners. Whether they are villains or “villains” their stories are always interesting.
Check out some of romance's best characters, both as villains and heroes:

Love in the Library

Heart in bookIn my (completely unbiased, of course) opinion, librarians are awesome, and I love it when one is a character in the book I am reading. There are many romances where the heroine (or hero) is currently working as a librarian. Whether you like books with characters caught in suspenseful life and death situations, dealing with becoming a vampire or just letting loose and falling in love, these librarian characters will be sure to please. And they won’t even tell you to be quiet!

Be sure to check out these titles:

Sit and Stitch

Halfway to the Grave

Halfway to the GraveI read a lot of vampire romances (seriously, a lot), and it is hard for me to choose one favorite. One of my absolute favorites, though, would be Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost. The main characters, Cat, a half-vampire out for revenge, and Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, are a great couple and the plot is a good mix of romance and suspense. Their story continues in three more books (so far), and is one of the best series in paranormal romance. Check it out!

And Now for Something (Slightly) Different

GlobesI was browsing the shelves the other day, and it struck me how many historical romances were set in England, Scotland, and the United States. Although I love these settings, sometimes I’m in the mood for something a little different. I looked through our catalog and found several romances set in different parts of the world (although most have English main characters). Be sure to check them out!

Anthologies for Everyone!

Woman with stacked booksAs my time to read has diminished, I’ve become a much bigger fan of the short story anthology. It’s a great way to read a complete story in a short amount of time, and (lucky for me) the romance genre has enough anthologies for even the most voracious reader. Many popular romance authors write stories for anthologies in between novels, and you can find an anthology for any type of romance. Check out some of the anthologies the library has available:
