Adult Summer Reading Program!

If you thought the summer reading program was only for kids and teens, think again!  Adults, if you're looking forward to catching up on your reading this summer, then be sure to register for ReaderNation, our adult summer reading program!  Registration begins on Friday, June 4th, and ends Saturday, August 7th.  Visit us in person or register online at www.hcpl.net and read and log at least four titles before Saturday, August 14th.  After that, besides having enjoyed the reward of reading a good novel or two, you've made yourself eligible for a bookstore gift card as a prize!  Make the most of your love of reading this summer and register for ReaderNation!

Summer plans, Teens?

Hey, teens, what are you up to this summer?  If you haven't figured that out yet, come up to the Hideout and take a look at what we've got going on!  Ms. Sunni has got a bunch of special programs and activities lined up, and we've put the info all in one place.  If you're the type who likes to plan ahead, or if you just want to be surprised to find out that the library can actually be a cool place to be, come up and grab a Texas Teens Read program flyer to see what's happening during the next several months! 

The Hideout - Teens only!

Hey, teens, in case you haven't heard, we've carved out a space just for you in the new library building.  It's called "The Hideout," and that's just what it's meant to be!  We've got everything from your favorite authors to your favorite series titles, not to mention graphic novels, study areas, teen computer stations, and even a room for videogaming!  Ms. Sunni has lined up a bunch of programs and activities for you also on weekday afternoons, including the Know-It-Alls book club for LoneStar books on the first and third Mondays of the month, The Lady and Her Green Knights Chess Club every Tuesday, and a free-style Lego building activity on Thursdays.  So, get up here as soon as you can!  There's way too much fun to be had up here!

Computer Classes Now Available!

Just as we promised, computer training classes are now here!  In our brand new building is a computer training lab on the second floor.  We've begun scheduling classes for May and are offering instruction on basic topics between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM on Tuesdays:  Introduction to Computers on the 4th, Introduction to the Internet on the 11th, Library Catalog Searching on the 18th, and Facebook/Social Networking on the 25th.  We will also offer an introductory course on Microsoft Word on Monday, May 17th, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.  To sign up, just give us a call at 281-360-6804 or visit the staff on the second-floor Adult Services area.  If you don't find yourself interested in any of these courses, stay tuned!  There are plenty more to come in the following months!

Opening day!

It was a very busy but exciting day on Monday, April 19th, for our Grand Opening at our new location.  If you didn't get a chance to visit, we'd definitely love to see you here in our brand new library built just for you, the public.  Take a look at our slide show below to see some of the day's activities and distinguished guests!

Moving Week 4 - Almost Finished!

The staff has been working hard this week to get everything ready, and it has certainly paid off!  We're all exhausted but pleased by what has been accomplished.  In just a little over a week, the community will be able to enjoy a brand new, spacious library building full of new and exciting services.  Take a look at the pictures below to see the progress that has been made!

Declutter and Décor for Spring

Moving Week 2 - From the old to the new

Last week, the library's collection was moved from the old to the new building in three days time and furniture was installed.  This week, the staff will sort the new collection and begin to put what remains in place on the shelves.  Take a look at the pics above to see what's been going on and to get a glance at the progress of some of the new areas of the library!

Moving Week 1 - Moving right along!

The second floor shelving for the adult services area is in place in the new building, and now the shelving for the children's area is being installed!  This week, the staff anticipates to begin moving the library's collection from the old building to the new building.  Take a look at the slide show above to see what's in place, and stay tuned right here each week for updates on our progress!

Take a look above at the latest progress going on at the new library building!  Shelving for the collection has been delivered and is currently being assembled for the second floor adult services area.  After that, the children's shelving will be installed and then the moving will begin!
