Overdrive Digital Bookmobile is coming to Kingwood Branch Library!

Are you among the many who now download digital copies of library materials?  If not, would you like to know how?  Be sure to come Tuesday, December 14th, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm for a visit from the Overdrive Digital Bookmobile at Kingwood Branch Library!  Staff will be available to offer free demonstrations on how to download ebooks and eaudio to a variety of devices.  Also, taking a tour through the bookmobile automatically makes you eligible for a raffle to win a digital ebook reader or mp3 player!  Take a look at the video below to see what goes on at one of the many stops the Bookmobile makes across the country: 

Holiday Food Drive at the Library

As part of Channel 13's "Share Your Holidays" event, Kingwood Branch Library will be hosting a food drive on Friday, December 10th, from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.  Bring your non-perishable food items, such as canned vegetables or fruit, pasta, etc., to the Community Room, where our staff and volunteers will be waiting graciously to receive donations to be given to the Humble Area Assistance Ministries.  Santa will also be present from 7:00 am to 9:00 am to hand out candy canes.  Don't miss out on this opportunity to help out the hungry in our community during this holiday season!

Blood drive at the library

Once again, the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will be on site in the Community Room on Monday, November 22nd, from 1:00 to 5:30 PM to received blood donations from the public.  Walk-ins are accepted, but it is encouarged to sign up ahead of time for an appointment at either the reference or children's desks or at the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center webiste here.  Don't miss out on this opportunity to give the gift of life!

Health Information at the Library

Do you struggle to find reliable medical and health information online?  If so, then be sure to register for a special class here at the library in the Training Lab on Tuesday, November 16th, at 10:30 AM.  Shannon Basher, a guest presenter and medical librarian for the Texas Medical Center Library in Houston, will offer her expertise on how to navigate and select the best health info out there on the world wide web.  Space is limited, so call or visit the library to register.

Early Voting - Two Days Left!

As you may already know, Kingwood Branch Library is an early voting location.  However, there are only two days left!  The Community Room, which is immediately to the right after entering the library, will be open for early voting on Thursday, October 28th, and Friday, October 29th, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.  Anyone living in Harris County can vote at any early voting location.  On Election Day, Tuesday, November 2nd, only voters living in Precinct 0563 are eligible to vote at this location.  Get ahead of the game before Tuesday and exercise your right to vote!

Banned Books Week

This week is Banned Books Week, when libraries and other institutions everywhere celebrate the freedom to read and reemphasize the importance of the First Amendment.  Here at our branch, we've set up a book display in the second-floor lobby with many of those titles that have been challenged at various times and places in the near and distant past.  Some of those you see may surprise you!  Also, if you're curious, take a look at the American Library Association's site here for an ample list of few of the most challenged classics over the years along with the reasons they were banned.  You just might get interested in reading some of them yourself!
