Computer Classes For the New Year

Computer ClassesMake good on your New Year's resolution and update your computer skills. Monday January 7 we will begin a whole new round of computer courses. Classes in Computer Basics are held every Monday at 10:15 AM or 4:00 PM, and Wednesdays at 1:15 PM or 4:00 PM. If you already have a handle on the basics, try our Microsoft Office Skills course which includes the programs Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Office classes are given every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:15 AM or 4:00 PM. Both Basic and Office Skills courses will run through to the end of February. No registration or fees are required, and seating is given on a first come, first serve basis. Arrive early, and bring a flash drive.

Microsoft Excel 2007 is Back!

Excel 2007Starting Tuesday, April 24 Microsoft Excel 2007 classes are back! Learn the basics of Excel to create tables of data as well as dynamic charts. One hour classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday. Morning sessions start at 10:15 AM both days, and afternoon sessions are held at 5:30 PM on Tuesdays, and 4:30 PM on Thursdays.

Read an eBook Week

eBook WeekNext week, March 4 -10, is Read an eBook Week! The popularity of eReader devices like the Kindle and Nook, and tablet computers like the iPad and Galaxy is explosive. The percentage of people who own one of these devices has more than doubled since last November. To celebrate, we will host a library eBook demonstration next Thursday, March 8 from 2:15 to 3:45. Due to the great diversity among these devices, the aim of this workshop is to demonstrate the download process. One-on-one, hands-on trainings can be scheduled for another time.

ipadDo you have an iPad, iPod Touch, or iPhone that you're stuck trying to figure out? Maybe you've tackled the basics, but now you want to know how to checkout and download library material. Windows 7 Laptops for Checkout

Did you know that Katy Library has Windows 7 laptops for checkout? Want to check Facebook while sitting in one of our comfy sofa chairs? Maybe you’d like to surf the web while sitting near your child as he or she plays games on the children’s computers. Get a laptop for a lending period up to two hours and take it anywhere inside the main area of the library.
To check out a laptop, simply visit the front desk, or the information desk, and sign our laptop policy form. At the time of checkout, you must present your Harris County Public Library card. Also, your account must be open for at least 30 days, and your status must be in good standing. Children may check out laptops as long as they are 13 or older.

Facebook class is coming back to Katy Library

FacebookHave you wanted to join Facebook but aren’t quite sure how to get started? Or maybe you already have an FB account and the recent changes to the site have thrown you off. Come to our three part course that covers all the Facebook essentials. Learn how to manage your privacy and account settings, edit your profile, search for people you know, and make friends. Also, see how to post pictures and links, leave comments and more! Classes start on Friday November 4, and will be held every other Friday until December 2. Each class will last for about two hours from 2:00 to 4:00 PM....
