TGIF Programs Friday Film Series proudly partners with Gulf Coast Reads. Please join us in the Children's Activity Space this Friday at 10:15 AM as we show Snow Falling on Cedars (1999), a film starring Ethan Hawke, Max von Sydow, and Yûki Kudô. The film is rated PG-13 for disturbing images, sensuality and brief strong language.This will conclude the 2016 Gulf Coast Reads Events at Freeman.

Join Us for Freeman Nonfiction Book Club Next Monday!

Adults - Our 1st Meeting of the Freeman Nonfiction Book Club is Monday, 10/24 @ 7 PM in the upstairs Conference Room. Nonfiction Book Club has no specifically assigned book but rather an assigned subject. Each attendee is asked to come prepared to discuss at least one book related to that month's subject. This month, we'll talk about Pre-1900 Biographies (Biographies of people who lived before 1900.) Program supported by Friends of Freeman.

Great Books Discussion Group Talks about Gulf Coast Reads Book This Thursday!

Gulf Coast Reads (GCR): On the Same Page is an annual regional reading initiative focused on promoting the simultaneous reading or listening to a selected title by those living along the upper Texas Gulf Coast.*

This year's pick, Jan Jarboe Russell's The Train to Crystal City, describes "the dramatic and never-before-told story of a secret FDR approved American internment camp in Texas during World War II, where thousands of families -- many US citizens -- were incarcerated."

TGIF Programs Hosting Food Fiesta Food Demo This Friday!

Adults - please join TGIF Programs in the Children's Activity Space this Friday at 10:30 AM for our "Food Fiesta Food Demo" event. Freeman staff will show the audience how to make delicious dishes from Mexico. This food demo is part of our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

This free event will require no registration. The refreshments prepared in this event will be provided by the Friends of Freeman Library.

Registration Opens Tomorrow - Senior Adult Trip to the Houston Mounted Patrol

Senior Adults - If you are at least 55 years old, then we hope you will consider joining us for a day trip on Thursday, 11/10. The Precinct2gether bus will depart from the Freeman Library parking lot. Please plan for plenty of walking and wear comfortable, rubber-soled shoes.

Our 1rst stop will be at the Houston Mounted Patrol Horse Barn (5005 Little York Rd./ Houston, TX 77016-2547) which houses the equine members of the Houston Police Department. Trip goers will hear a presentation followed by interaction with the horses.

Afterwards, we'll dine at the Potatoe Patch Restaurant (2020 FM 1960/ Houston, TX 77073) for lunch. This home cooking style restaurant is well-known for its "throw'ed rolls." Each participant is responsible for the cost of their own meal.

TGIF Programs Hosts Local Author Mike Guardia This Friday!

Adults - TGIF Programs invites you to join us Friday at 10:30 AM in the Children's Activity Space. Local author and historian Mike Guardia will speak to us about the life and career of Lt. General Hal Moore, the legendary commander at the Battle of Ia Drang, the first major battle of the Vietnam War. His battlefield exploits were popularized by the film We Were Soldiers starring Mel Gibson. After his presentation, we will host a book signing. Copies will be available for purchase.

No registration is required for this free event. This presentation is open to the public. Programming support and refreshments provided by the Friends of Freeman Library.

Adult Crafts-To-Go Project This October!

Adults - please stop by the upstairs Reference Desk, to pick up an Adult Crafts-To-Go kit. This month, we're crafting woven heart baskets. This free kit will include all materials necessary as well as instructions. This project will be available to adult patrons while supplies last.
