Volunteer at the Library

Do you want to do more to help your community?  Volunteer at the library!  Our next New Volunteer Orientation is Monday, October 28th at 7PM.  Applications are available at the Information Desk (must be signed by guardian if volunteer is under 18).  Volunteers need to be in high school or older.  If you have any questions, call 281-492-8592.

Family Movie

KISD schools have a holiday this Friday, October 4 and in case you are looking for something to do, we have just the answer. Come enjoy a movie about pirates and a family of castaways. The show starts at 1:30 pm and there is free popcorn.

Foil Sculpture

The Afternoon Art project this week is a foil sculpture. No registration is required. The class meets Wednesday, September 25 at 4:30 pm and is for children ages 6-11.

Common Sense Media

I recently came across this website that I thought was very helpful in finding good apps, movies and websites for families with children. Here is their website and mission statement. You may want to check it out.

A Magical Childhood

This morning I read an article on Eric Carle's facebook page about what a 4 year old should know. I  want to share a bit from the article as it applies to children of all ages. As we think of going back to school, let us remember childhood is a magical time and using your imagination is so important for developing creativity.

Moody Garden's Rainforest Trunk

There has been a change in our Afternoon Adventures schedule. Moody Gardens will be bringing their Rainforest Trunk program on Monday, July 22.  The times are the same; 1:30 pm and 3 pm. Come learn about the rainforest.

Go Wild Science and Reading Program

Children in grades kindergarten and up are welcome to join us Monday, July 8 @ 1:30 pm or 3 pm for a Julian Franklin Production. This high energy variety show Includes magic tricks, puppetry, jokes and science. We begin stamping hands a half hour before the show. Seating is limited.

A True Jurassic Experience

Elementary age kids are going to love our Afternoon Adventures every Monday during the summer reading program. This Monday, June 17  will excite dinosaur fans with Walt Whittington's DINOSAURS ROCK. It's a  fascinating dinosaur, fossil and mineral adventure your child will talk about for a long time.

The program is free but seating is limited. Kids will need to have their hand stamped  a half hour before the show. There will be a show at 1:30 pm and 3 pm.


 

Summer Reading Program Coming Soon

The time is fast approaching for the Have Book- Will Travel  HCPL summer 2013 reading program. Starting Monday, June 3 you'll be able to register everyone in your family in a program designed just for them. Babies, children, teens and adults will receive a reading passport and the chance to win awesome prizes. Stop by the library and pick up the event calendar and start planning your reading adventure. 

Booksale Time

The Friends of Maud Marks Library are once again having their used booksale this weekend. The member's only preview is Friday, May 17 from 4:30 pm -6pm. Not a member? No problem, you can join at the door. All others can come Saturday from 10 am - 4 pm.  There are lots of good deals and its a great way to support the library.
