World Book Online for KIds

When I was growing up, and when my kids were young,  the World Book Encyclopedia was sold door to door. It was a huge expense to purchase a set, but  parents thought this was the best investment in their child's education. Well  parents guess what? You don't have to dish out hundreds of dollars anymore. The World Book Encyclopedia is available thru our databases and its better then ever. World Book Online for KIds as lots of colorful pages, videos, games and activities will make learning fun and exciting. And the  best part is, all you need is a library card.

Another Brick Wall?

Did you ever feel like no matter how hard you try to find an answer to a particular question, you run into a brick wall?  Maybe the answer is at the library. We have access to many databases with current information on just about anything. Its worth a try. Give us a call or stop by and let us help you avoid that brick wall.

Are You a Jon Hamm Fan?

If so then get ready, the Mad Men Season 5 debuts with a two hour premiere on Sunday, March 25. If you haven't been watching this awarding winning AMC series don't despair,  the Harris County Public Library owns seasons one- four on DVD. There is plenty of time to catch up.

Margaret and her Mom

With all the presents and decorations put away its good to get back to a weekly routine of going to the library and checking out books.  Margaret and her mom are looking for princess books, a favorite of Margaret.

What Would We Do Without Our Friends?

Charlotte Brooks and Glenda Lindsay, two very special people, are celebrating their birthdays in early December. Their endless help with our book sales make it possible for us to have all the wonderful programs we offer.  Charlotte and Glenda are also on the Friends of Maud Marks Library board. Thanks Charlotte and Glenda for all your support and  we hope you have  wonderful birthdays. :)

Over the River and Through the Woods

Its here, the 2011 holidays are upon us. The library will be closed Thursday-Sunday November 24-27.  Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday regularly scheduled programs such as Toddler Time and Story time remain as scheduled.  Don't forget to load up on DVDs, audio books and books for your trip to Grandmas.

We have lots of things planned for December, so be on the look out for awesome classes for adults, programs for children and a special family event on December 16.

Happy Eating!

Don't Be Bored!

Come to the library and discover yourself!  Read a book, look up your ancestors, learn a language, read about the newest health craze, fix your car, take a computer class, bring your child or your neighbor's child to story time, or join a book club. The possibilities are endless. There is something for everyone.

Storytime Puppet Show

On Wednesday, September 28 at the 11:15 am preschool story time, Charity and Judy will  entertain the kids with a puppet show. The puppets we will be performing with  were bought with funds from the Friends of the Maud Marks Library. So while you  are here, check out the used books for sale or bring a few to donate.

Children's Book Series

So, your kid comes come from school one day and ask you if you could check at the library for a Candy Apple book or maybe a My Weird School Daze book or maybe a My Sister the Vampire book and  they don't know the author. What do you do? Have no fear. Stop by one of the information desks and ask one of us. We updated our children's series section and it should be much easier to find those titles. Instead of being in author alphabetical order, they are in order according to the title of the series. Hopefully this will make it easier to find.
