Read to the Dogs

Starting Friday August 14, Peter the therapy dog will return to the West University Library to listen as children read to him. 2 other dogs may take turns listening to the children occasionally.  From 3:30 until 4:30 PM every other Friday, Peter will be upstairs ready to listen as children read to him for 20 minutes at a time. Children are able to practice reading aloud with a patient, non-judgmental canine companion.


Summer Reading Is Over

Thank you  all for helping make this Summer Reading Program a success. We had a variety of children's and young adult  programs that were well attended and enjoyed. Audiences were treated to magic, various animals, a dinosaur fossil hunt, martial arts and assorted crafts. Have a wonderful rest of the summer !

Birds in History program

                               The Houston Audubon Society will bring some awesome raptors and more birds to the West University Library to assist the volunteer in telling about famous birds in history.  Wednesday August 5 at 3 PM is the final children’s program of the Summer Reading Program.  The program will be in the Senior Center auditorium.   

Animal Rescue Program

 Cats and dogs will be at the West University Library for you to meet Wednesday July 22 at 3 PM.  Volunteers from Loving Arms Pet Placement will bring dogs and cats for children to meet and learn the importance of rescuing animals.  Children will learn what rescue is and basic pet care tip

Shelly the Clown

     Shelly the Clown will entertain children and adults at the West University Library at 3 PM on Wednesday July 15.  Shelly has an assortment of silly magic and fun to share with us.  This program will appeal to children of all ages and their caregivers.

Mask painting for teens

The Museum of Fine Arts Houston teen organization will present a 1 hour program for teens to create and decorate masks at the West University Library on Tuesday July 7 at 2:30 PM. All supplies are provided. The program will be at the Senior Center Auditorium, next to the Library.
This program is for tweens and teens – ages 10 to 15. 

Snakes in the library

       If you like snakes or just want to learn more about them, come to the West University Library Wednesday July 8 at 3 PM.  Snake expert Thomas Davis will bring a large of assortment of snakes for us to meet and learn about.  You’ll be able to pet the snakes and ask your questions.  This program will appeal to children ages 4 to 12 years.

Teen movie and snacks

On Tuesday June 23 at 2:15 PM, tweens and teens will be treated to a showing of the movie Seventh Son at the Senior Center auditorium next to the West University Library.  There will be assorted cushions to lounge on as you enjoy popcorn, sodas and other snacks.
This program is for tweens and teens – ages 10 to 15.
