Galveston: History and Hospitality

We Have A New Friend At GP

Hey everybody! Come meet our new huggable, lovable friend Gene the Bear. Gene the Bear loves to read books, eat berries and honey, take extremely long naps, and chase butterflies when he is not napping. He enjoys picnics and helping people. One day, Gene the Bear decided he wanted to help his community but did not know how. He went to visit his friend Congressman Gene Green for advice. After a long conversation, they decided that the best way for Gene the Bear to help his community was to become a reading companion for children at the Galena Park Library...

New Indoor Exercise Sessions

Do you have a need to get out of the house and become more energetic? Here at the Jacinto City Branch Library, we will be offering free 1 hour exercise routines in our meeting room starting Tuesday, September 8 at 2pm every week. No better time than now to become more active and get in shape. See you there!

Get Active/ Activate

Do you want to become more active and get in shape but the Houston heat doesn’t let you? Don’t worry, we have a solution for you. Starting Wednesday, September 2nd at 4:00 pm we will be offering weekly adult indoor exercise sessions that will keep you active and healthy. So don’t delay, grab your tennis shoes and join us in the Galena Park Library meeting room for some exercise fun!

Meditation: A Tool for Stress Reduction and a Healthier Lifestyle

Are you feeling stressed? Would you like to learn how to reduce stress in your life? Then meditation is the answer. Long time meditator Daya Sharma, will be offering a lively and engaging meditation workshop Saturday, August 29th at 11 am at the Galena Park Branch Meeting Room. In this workshop you will learn the tools of stress reduction and how to live a healthier lifestyle. Hope to see you there!

Boom Puff Art!

Summer Reading is almost over and we will be having our last summer children’s program tomorrow Thursday, August 6th at 3:00 pm. We will be using exploding paint to create some really cool paintings. Join us for this boomtastic program just outside the Galena Park Library in the park. Hope to see you there!

"Catch Me IF You Can" Animal Program

Do you know what animals are prey and what animals are predators in the area where you live? Would you like to find out? Then come join us at the Alvin D. Baggette Community Center this Thursday, July 30th at 3 pm, for our Catch Me If You Can program. A Traveling Naturalist with the Challenger Seven Learning Center will be bringing live animals and talking about the difference between a prey animal vs a predator animal. This is a ticketed event, so please pick up your free ticket at the circulation desk in the library before the program begins. You must have your ticket present to attend this program. One ticket per child while tickets last.   

Ballet Talks

Do you like dancing or the ballet? Then come join us tomorrow Thursday, July 9th at 3:00 pm in the Galena Park Library meeting room for Ballet Talks. A representative from the Houston Ballet will be coming to the Galena Park library to tell us the wonderful story behind the ballet The Sleeping Beauty.

There will be tutus, pointe shoes and props for everyone to enjoy. Hope to see you here!
