Be Your Own Mechanic

MechanicIf your car needs some kind of maintenance or repair and you would really like to do it yourself (for the satisfaction or to save a lot of money), but you don’t quite have the confidence to tackle the job, take a look at our Chilton ONLINE Auto Repair Manuals. There is a very good chance that they will have the information you need. Just put the year, make, and model into the “Vehicle Selector,” select “Repair” or “Maintenance,” and choose what you would like to work on from the lists. There are even VIDEOS of how to do some of the repairs!!

’Tis the Season – for Planting!

Flowers

It’s that time of year when we can use yard work as an excuse to stay outside and enjoy the nice weather. If you’d like some expert gardening advice, the Harris County libraries have hundreds of gardening books, including some that specialize in Texas gardening and my personal favorite, low-maintenance gardening. Flower gardening and vegetable gardening are both in the 635s in the Dewey Decimal system. Any staff member would be glad to help you find them.  [Clipart from jupiterimages.com.]

Help With Income Tax Forms

Tax formIt’s time again to fill out those pesky income tax forms. Fortunately, AARP volunteers trained by the IRS will once again be at the Fairbanks Library 3 days per week to help people complete and file their federal income tax forms. There are no age or income requirements for receiving help from the volunteers. They will be here from February 1 through April 13, Mondays from 1 pm - 5 pm, Tuesdays from 1 pm - 5 pm, and Saturdays from 10 am - 2 pm. The volunteers offer assistance only in person (not by telephone) and only on a first come, first served basis. (Appointments are not possible.)
