Have you been to your library lately?

Have you been to your library lately? If not, you’ve missed some amazing programs. We’ve had everything from kids learning Spanish and making paper circuits, a magic show for Dr. Seuss’s birthday, to adults sewing and learning Microsoft PowerPoint. But have no fear if you missed out on these cool events as we have more excellent programming coming up!

Evelyn Meador Library Love

Since Valentine ’s Day is this week, I want to throw a little colleague love at our wonderful Luchiann Chang. Serving as our Technology Trainer, Mrs. Chang works tirelessly to provide our patrons and patrons in La Porte with amazing technology-based programming. Next week she has a program every day:

African American History Month and Chinese New Year

February is here and with it comes an important reminder. This month is set aside for us to contemplate and reflect on the history and heritage of African Americans and their role in shaping this country. Even though February is the month set aside for us to reflect upon and contemplate both the triumphant and tragic events in the history of African Americans, it should not be the only time we think about this. Here at Evelyn Meador we have two programs that we hope will inspire and motivate our patrons to learn more about the rich heritage and culture of African Americans.

For our younger ones K-6th grade we present:

Coming up, February programming!

One month of 2018 down or close enough. Have you been keeping up with your New Year’s Resolutions (if you made them)? I, for one, give myself a cheat month (January) to decide what I really want to focus on for the year. If you’re like me and want to learn a new skill, or maybe hone one (I have 4 more days to decide), well, Evelyn Meador has you covered. Our new month long sewing program starts February 1st and will occur every Thursday at 1:30, Classes will focus on measuring, developing patterns for and sewing skirts, tops, dresses.

"Brrr" It's Cold Outside...

Wow what a week this has been! For the first time in 22 years the Houston area had a temperature of 19 degrees. That cold weather brought with it icy road conditions and closures all over Texas. But, we keep moving forward, we want our patrons to know that all books due those days will not have late fees applied to them.

Learn something new at Evelyn Meador

Harris County Public Library's mission is to provide information and resources to enrich lives and strengthen communities through innovative services within and beyond our walls. Here at Evelyn Meador we do our best to meet that mission. By offering a wide variety of classes and programming, we enrich our patron’s lives and even challenge customers to learn something new. Our recent journal-making program was a blast; we learned to make Japense stab bound journals. Everyone who participated got to take their own unique and functional piece of art home.
