Here at the Aldine Library, we offer ELA classes (English Language Aquisition) to those learning the English language. Classes meet in the Meeting Room each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 AM - 1 PM.

In addition to ELA classes, HCPL offers one-one-one ABE (Adult Basic Education) tutoring services to those who need help with literacy. Students meet with tutors here at the library.

Check out our website for more information about both ELA and ABE classes here.

Asian Culture and the Chinese Language at Aldine Library

The Aldine Library's Asian Pacific American Heritage Month event that was held on Wednesday, May 25th at 6:30 PM was a smash hit. Ms. Erin Hong, owner and operator of Houston's Charm Chinese School, gave a presentation to children and adults about Asian culture and geography. In addition, she spoke about the history of Chinese people in the United States. Then, Ms. Hong taught the meaning of several different Chinese characters. Children practiced writing the characters with crayons. At the end of the presentation, Ms. Hong quizzed children on the characters and their meaning.

再见! zài jiàn! Goodbye!

Summer Volunteers Needed!

Hi everyone! We are almost in mid-May. Summer is fast approaching. Parents, do you have a teen who is at least 16 years of age? Does your teen need something to do over the summer break? Consider volunteering at the Aldine Library! Volunteering teaches teens the importance of community service. Also, volunteering can sometimes be a part of both high school graduation requirements and scholarship applications.

Adults are welcome to volunteer, too!

A volunteer orientation will be held on May 16th from 5-6 PM.  Please join us!

Learn the Language and the Culture

Ms. Erin Hong, who operates Houston's Charm Chinese School, will present a program about Asian culture on Thursday, May 12th at 6 PM. In addition, she will teach us some Chinese words & phrases!

Don't miss out on the fun.
