El programa se ofrecerá en las computadoras de la sala del laboratorio cada martes, jueves, y sabado de 10:30-11:30 a.m.  

Patron Count Week Volunteers Needed

Attention teens at the Aldine Library! Need volunteer hours for school? Next week is a great opportunity to get lots of them! Patron count week (March 3- March 8) is a time when we need volunteers to sit at at the library entrance  to count each man, woman, and child who enters. We will provide you with a clipboard to keep track. We need volunteers for every hour the library is open to the public:

Mon 1-8
Tue 10-7
Wed 1-8
Thu 10-7
Fri 1-6
Sat 10-5

Volunteers must be: Ages 15 & UP (with parent/guardian approval)

Reliable, Responsible, & Punctual
Ability to follow directions and work independently
Fill out volunteer application and submit.

National Read Across America Day (Dr. Seuss Day) 2014

The National Education Association's Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on or near March 2nd—Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Now in it's 17th year, the NEA's Read Across America Day focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books.  

The Aldine Library is celebration Read Across Day on Thursday, March 6th at the 10:30 AM Bilingual Storytime. All children are welcome to come and  enjoy Dr. Seuss books through activities, games and crafts.

The Rythm of the Drum

The Aldine Library is hosting a special Pajama storytime in honor of Black History Month on Monday, February 24th at 7 PM titled "The Rhythm of the Drum." Children will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the drum in the African American culture through stories, songs, activities and crafts. As part of the program, children will make a drum to take home. Come join the fun. We'll see you in the Meeting Room. 

Ladies of Inspiration

The Aldine Library is hosting a special event in honor of Black History Month. Join us as Pastor Brenda Stewart and Ms. Sylvia Bolling come read selections from their newly published books. Reverend Stewart's book is titled "FIT FOR THE FIGHT!: The Vigilant Fight of Faith for My Husband, My Family, and Myself.". Ms. Bolling's book is "When God Gives You a Vision: Some Lessons I've Learned." The vision and inspiration of these two African American women have been a force for positive change in the lives of many. They continue to make a real difference in the Greenspoint community. Come meet, greet, and hear from these dynamic authors at the Aldine Library on Saturday, February 15th at 11 AM!

Did you know? iPads at Aldine

Did you know that iPads are available once again to check out at the Aldine Library? We had some issues with upgrading to the latest Apple software that prevented us from checking them out for a while. However, now all of our iPads are upgraded and ready for you to use. You can check out iPads to use inside the library building for a 2 hour period of time. Borrowers must have a Harris county library card for at least 30 days to check out iPads. Also, you need to have your library card present to check them out.  Enjoy using an Apple iPad today!

Help Yourself

We have expanded our January book display at the Aldine Library. In addition to what we have in the lobby, we now have self-help books set out in the periodical area of the branch. Stop by and take a look at both book display locations. Help yourself!

 

 

Free Computer Classes at Aldine!

Did you know that free computer classes are now being offered at the Aldine Library? Check out the schedule of classes here on our branch calendar webpage. Classes are available in both English and Spanish. No advanced sign up is required. Take advantage of this great opportunity to brush up on your computer skills today!

Finding Bigfoot

Does Bigfoot exist? Skeptics will be given all the information they need to decide for themselves in a brand new book titled Finding Bigfoot: Everything You Need to Know by Martha Brockenbrough. Did you know that in Skamania County, Washington, an ordinance passed in 1969 that makes it illegal to kill a bigfoot.? "Anyone who hunted bigfoot and committed a 'willfull and wanton slaying' could be convicted of a felony, fined up to $10,000, and sent to jail for up to five years. The law was softened a bit in 1984. Now, bigfoot hunting is a gross misdemeanor punishable with a $1,000 fine and up to a year in the clink" writes Brockenbrough. Read on about bigfoot sightings from around the world and even start your own bigfoot tracking in this essential bigfoot book at the Aline Library!

Resolutions, Resolutions, and, Oh, Resolutions

Happy New Year, everyone! With a new year comes new resolutions, right? The Aldine Library is here to help you meet and keep your resolutions. We are kicking off the new year with a collection of self-help books in our display case to help make a better you! Titles on weight loss, exercise, self-esteem, and just plain being happy are there. Stop by and take a look. On the lighter side, we have a Winnie the Pooh DVD available for checkout. In the story, Rabbit's pals in the Hundred Acre Wood make misguided resolutions to change with some hilarious and heartfelt results. Happy 2014!
