No Tricks... but lots of treats for under $1.00

Don't forget the Friends of the Library Book Sale this Saturday, October 27, 2012, from 10 AM - 4 PM. There will be lots of treats for all ages and nothing costs more than $1.00. If you would like to join the Friends of the Library for $10 a year you can also attend the Early Bird Preview on Friday, October 26, from 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM. AND...for those who are trying to clean out for the fall, or want to have more room for purchases, donations are accepted daily. Bring in the old books and take home some new ones.

Change Is In The Air...

            This is the time of year when lots of people look forward to the temperature changing. How about implementing a change of your own, like joining a book club?  In October, the Just Desserts Mystery Book Club meets on Wed., Oct. 17 at 2pm.  They are reading The Beekeeper’s Apprentice by Laurie King.  Also, the Gulf Coast Reads group is meeting on Thurs., Oct. 18 at 2pm discussing Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer.  Maud Marks Library has two regularly scheduled book clubs. The Evening Book Club meets on the first Monday of the month at 7pm. The Afternoon Book Club meets on the second Thursday of the month at 1pm. It's That Time Again...

                                                          

The Friends of the Maud Marks Library are having another Book Sale this Saturday, Sept. 15, 10 AM- 5 PM. The meeting room which is off the lobby will be filled with all kinds of books, CD's, cassettes, videos, DVD's, magazines,  and more. Nothing sells for more than a dollar. If you want a sneak peek, join the Friends of the Maud Marks Library for only $10 per year. This membership allows you to attend the early bird preview of the Book Sale on the Fridays before the sale.  So, join... and join us on Friday, Sept 14, from 4:30-6 PM.

School is back in session, but don’t let the traffic get to you. Harris County Public Library has a great listening selection.   Go to our website to find your favorite authors on CD, come in and check it out, or download it to your listening device.  These can help make your commute more enjoyable and less stressful.

Planning an e-Vacation?

            You’ve got your airplane ticket, passport, and e-reader. You’ve got your suitcase, but no room for those travel books.

A Bowling Wii Will Go...

The plans for the 2rd annual Family Wii Bowling Tournament have been made.  Once we have enough teams signed up the registration will close. The tournament is scheduled for Friday, August 10th, from 2-4 pm and will be held in the meeting room off the lobby. It will be lots of fun, so don’t wait to register.

The Library is the Place to Be!

It’s not your grandmother’s library anymore. People are waiting in line to get in. Maybe you should come in and see what the excitement is all about. To get a Harris County library card just bring in an ID with your current address and fill out the form, and the Knowledge card can be yours. 

The 4th of July… Independence Day

Fireworks and barbecue… is that what it’s all about?  That’s the celebratory part of the day we attempt to remember our country’s freedom from foreign rule.  Americans  come together and continue in what  began in 1776, that … “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”  (from the Declaration of Independence)     We will be closed on Wed., July 4th. Enjoy your holiday!

 

Friday @ the Movies

If "America" were threatened by "Super Villains" what "Captain" would you call to save the day? Come to the Maud Mark's Library for Friday @ The Movies  this Friday, June 8th, 2012, at 1 pm, and see what transpires! Bring an American flag and receive a treat. 

Memorial Day USA

Harris County Public Libraries will be closed on Memorial Day, May 28, 2012. Memorial Day is a day to remember those who have given their all in service to our country.  It was originally called Decoration Day to honor the decorated veterans.  Decorating graves goes back to before the Civil War. Read about it and pass the stories along.
