Teen Movie

This Friday, November 10th,  we will be starting a new program at the Katy Library.  We will show a movie for teens or have an afternoon of video gaming every Friday at 3:30pm.   Our first selection will be Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," a Warner Brothers Film.  This movie is intended for teens and is rated PG-13.

Fiesta Hispana a Success!

Our Fiesta Hispana program celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month was a huge success!  The Katy Library would like to thank all volunteers, participants and attendees for making this a great year.  Everyone really enjoyed the music, dancing, learning about the culture and of course, the snacks!  Once again, thank you all so much!  We can't wait for next year!

Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrations

                Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the Katy Library on October 14, 2017.  We have two great programs for you to enjoy.  

At 11:00 am, guitarist Kyle Comer, of Da Camera of Houston, will present a "concert talk" celebrating Hispanic heritage.  His group will perform and discuss music and composers of Hispanic heritage, bringing a multicultural musical performance to our library and hoping to help families connect to our diverse city!

 

At 1:00 pm, we will have our Fiesta Hispana, our annual celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.  There will be dance performances, musical performances and traditional foods.

  

An Afternoon with YA author Cassandra Rose Clarke

For Teens Read Week, Cassandra Rose Clarke, author of the Assassin's Curse series will be here to discuss her books and what it's like to be a YA author. If you have any questions about becoming a teen writer, here is your chance to find out from an accomplished YA author.

 

Friends of the Katy Library Garage Sale 10/7/17

The Friends of the Katy Library will be holding a garage sale on October 7, 2017 from 10am-5pm.  Get a head-start on your holiday shopping and help the library raise money! The sale will be located in the meeting room of the Katy Library.  

Don't Read These Books!!!

Just kidding!  September 24-30, 2017 is Banned and Challenged Books Week.  It is a time when we celebrate our freedom to read.  The American Library Association's Office of Intellectual Freedom compiles a list every year of the most challenged books, using media reports of public challenges and and censorship reports that have been submitted to the office.  You can find the list here along with other lists of challenged books. 

 

Pages by the Pint Book Club

  Join us at No Label Brewery on Tuesday, September 19th at 8:00pm as we discuss "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot. Join us for beer, books, and bonding.   Please bring your own lawn chair to the book club as seating is limited. Outside food and non-alcoholic drinks are welcome. See you then!

Summer Reading Prizes

We had a great summer at the Katy Branch Library!  There were lots of fun programs and so many people participated in our summer reading program, "Build a Better World."  If you participated and have not picked up your prizes, you have until Saturday, August 19th to get your prizes.  We still have plenty left so come on down!

Wild Things Zoofari

Wild Things Zoofari , Tuesday, August 1st, at 2:30pm, will be our last program of the summer. There will be several animals on hand, and they will be educating us about the various animals and their habitats and what we can to help preserve the lifestyle of each animal.  Tickets are required and will be handed out starting at 1:30 pm(an hour before the program starts.)  Please get here early, as this program will fill up and space is extremely limited!

Texas Snakes and More

Texas Snakes and More will be at the Katy Branch on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 2:30 pm.  Mr. Clint will educate and entertain us and discuss various myths about snakes in general.  Participants will be able to touch and interact with a variety of non venomous snakes.

This program is intended for school age children and all children' MUST be able to go into the program without an adult.  All children will need a ticket to enter and the tickets will be handed out starting at 1:30 pm.  Space is limited so get here early!
