Book Buddies looking for Little Buddies

It's time to sign up your little ones for our Book Buddies program!

Book Buddies is a free program that brings children and adults together to share the joy of reading. It pairs trained adult volunteers (Big Buddies) with children in K-3rd grades (Little Buddies.) For 10 weeks, the Buddies meet once a week for 45 minutes of shared reading.

Our meetings will be Mondays at 5:00pm. The dates for the program are 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, 10/9,10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/6, 11/13.

Storyteller Aileen Kirkham

Captain Book will be entertaining us with wonderful stories at the Katy Library on Tuesday, June 27th, at 2:30pm. This program is intended for school age children and they must be able to attend without parents. Space is extremely limited and tickets will be handed out beginning one hour before the show. Chicken Big performance

Books Alive will have a free performance of the children's book Chicken Big, Thursday, June 22, at 10:15am at the Katy Library.  This will take the place of our preschool storytime, which is regulary scheduled during that time.  

Programs this Week

Summer programming has officially started at the Katy Library.  We have added a number of programs for you to enjoy throughout the summer, in addition to our Summer Reading Program, "Build a Better World" which you can register for here.

Here are a few highlights of programs this week at the Katy Library.

Monday:  2:30 pm  Tween/Teen progam:  Anime Drawing    Learn to draw anime with local artist Bob Doll.  Ages 10+

Tuesday:     2:30 pm Children's Program:  Geebo the Clown  Geebo will entertain us with magic and comedy.        

Teen Summer Volunteers Needed!

The Katy Branch Library at 5414 Franz Road in old Katy will be having two orientations for teen summer volunteers. The Teen Volunteer Program is open to high school students and will run from June 5-August 5th. Each volunteer is required to attend one training orientation, either Friday, June 9th from 10am-12pm or Wednesday, June 14th, from 10am-12pm. Please come pick up an application packet at the branch and bring completed to either session. If you have any questions, please contact Misty Wright at 281-391-3509.

Katy Summer Nights

Katy Summer Nights 2017 starts next Friday, June 9th at 8pm with a showing of "Norm of the North."  This event takes place at the VFW Park at 6202 George Bush Drive.  This event is free to the public, but children must be under parental supervision.  Complimentary popcorn will be offered.  For more information, please visit the City of Katy website!

Congratulations Graduates!

It's that time of year again!  We would like to congratulate all graduates for their amazing accomplishments.  Good luck with all your endeavors in the future!

Living Well Expo

A Living Well Expo is being hosted by Parkway Fellowship, on May 20th from 1pm-5pm.  This expo will have lots of information concerning physical, emotional, financial and family wellness.  This event is free to the public and will have entertainment, door prizes, food trucks and much more.

May Pages by the Pint Book Club

The Pages by the Pint Book Club May meeting is coming up at No Label Brewery on Tuesday, May 23 at 8 PM! Join us for beer, books, and bonding. The book is Fates and Furies by Laura Groff. There is still plenty of time to read it and you can check out a copy at the front desk at the Katy Branch Library.  Also, please bring your own lawn chair to the book club as seating is limited. Outside food and non-alcoholic drinks are welcome. See you then!

 

Para los Ninos Story Time

Join us on Wednesday, May 10th, at 6:00 pm for our Para los Ninos Bilingual Storytime!  Para los Niños is a fun, educational, bilingual workshop designed by the Children’s Museum of Houston for the whole family. We will be reading stories, singing songs and enjoying hands on learning activities that will make your child’s learning fun and exciting. This program is designed for children age 3-7 years old. Each family will be given a family ticket to the Children's Museum at the conclusion of the program. Space is limited and tickets will be handed out 30 minutes before the program
