Genre Challenge Coming to the Maud Marks Library

It's almost here!  Libraries Rock! 2018 Summer Reading Program Starts THIS Monday, June 4.  The Maud Marks Library is prepared!  We have all kinds of fun things going on this summer.  Movie buff?  We will be showing movies every Friday.  Technology Buff?  Our computer and technology classes are on Tuesdays and Saturdays.  Have an elementary aged child?  Check out our Elementary Book Club every other Wednesday or Afternoon Adventures on Mondays.  Teenager?  Teen time is every Thursday.  Top it off with our regularly offered Storytimes, Book Clubs, and other adult programs.  There is something for EVERYONE this summer.  Click here to see what we have to offer.

Stop Drowning Now!

Summer is right around the corner.  In Houston, this means, heat, air conditioning, shorts, and large bodies of water.  Unfortunately, those pools, lakes, rivers, and oceans come with the high risk of drowning.  This Tuesday, May 29, at 7 PM, national organization, Stop Drowning Now, will be here to talk about the dangers of children and the water.  Learn what you can do to keep your child safer this summer as we all use water to cool off from the heat of the season.

People's Law School

Do you have legal questions but don’t even know where to start?  The Maud Marks Library is pleased to host The People’s Law School presented by the Katy Bar Association.  Join us this Saturday, May 12 at 1 PM we will be covering the topic of immigration law.  Learn what you need to know to legally become an American Citizen.  Come learn how to ensure your family is safe and happy under the law.

Stop Teen Dating Violence

Do you have a teenager about to enter the dreaded world of dating?  How do you keep them safe?  This Tuesday, April 24 at 7 PM, Barbara McInnis, a Victim Liason with Harris County Constable Precinct 5, will be at the Maud Marks Library to talk about teen dating violence.  Learn why teens can get violent while on a date, what signs to watch for to catch if your child is in a violent relationship, steps to prevent teen violence, and what to do if it happens to your child.  Click here for more information and  to register.

Visit Us at Katy Safety Fest!

Helicopters, ambulances, fire trucks, and more!  What are you doing this Saturday?  Here's an idea for fun; visit booth for the Maud Marks Library as we participate in this year's Katy Area Safety Fest at Typhoon Texas!  Come meet your local first responders.  Tour an ambulance and a fire truck.  Learn various tips and tricks to keep you and your family safer.  Have your child bounce in the inflatable kid zone.  Have your child participate in the kids "junior firefighter challenge".  Best of all, visit our booth, get a library card and check out the many seminars, classes, and events available though your local public library.

Join us a Typhoon Texas this Saturday, April 14 from 10 AM to 2 PM.  As you are checking out all the entertainment and food, make sure you stop by and say, "Hello" to your local friendly librarians.

Let's Celebrate Local Artists!

It's just about time to once again celebrate local Katy artists at the Maud Marks Library!  We have spent the past week collecting various pieces of artwork from artists all across the area.  On Monday we will be installing the artwork in time for us to open after Easter.  We invite you to come and see the creativity and artistry of the Katy area all month long.

Then, on Saturday, April 7 at 6 PM, we will have our official opening reception.  The public is invited to come view the artwork and meet the various artists from Katy displaying their work.  Refreshments will be invited and all are welcome to join us for this day.  We hope to see you then!

Color Yourself Relaxed

Do you need some help with your down time?  Coloring can be a very relaxing activity.  Maud Marks Library wants to help with that.  Join us tomorrow, Tuesday, February 27 at 2 PM as we color ourselves into complete relaxation.  We will provide the coloring pages, color pencils, relaxing music, and a snack.  All you need to do is bring yourself and a need to relax.  We will see you then!

Reading= Hope X Change

It's Black History Month and the Maud Marks Library always likes to celebrate with style!  Join us this Saturday beginning at 1 PM as we discover why Reading= Hope X Change.  We will start the day off with readings, background music, traditional African American foods, and crafts.  Crafts include African masks, Black Panther masks, Wrinkle in Time Clocks, African American Bingo, Brain Teasers, and more!  Then, at 3 PM, join us as trombonist Kendall Moore and his jazz quartet invoke the Harlem Renaissance and the jazz craze that swept the world.

NASA Day @ My Library

 Do you have an astronomer in the family?  Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an astronaut and actually spend time in space?  At the Maud Marks Library, we have TWO space related programs coming up over the next week to feed your inner scientist!

First up, on Tuesday, January 30 at 6:30 PM, astronomers of all ages are invited to come See the Stars!  The Astronomy Society at hthe University of Houston will be here to teach us all about stars and other things you might see in our local sky.  They will even be bringing telecopes with them so you can seee for yourself what the stars and planets look like.

The Book is Always Better

The new year is just about upon us and a new batch of books are being turned into movies in 2018. Check out these books being releases as movies in January 2018.
