Still in the Heart of Tax Season

Yes, the Maud Marks Library is closed tomorrow and AARP will not be here to help with tax returns.  Don't worry though!  There is plenty of time left in the tax season this year.  In fact, due a holiday in Washington D.C., your taxes are not due until April 18.  That means AARP will continue to be out here on Mondays and Fridays through April 18.  You can come get your returns done on a first come, first served basis on Mondays March 28, April 4, 11, and 18 AND Fridays April 1, 8, and 15.

Super Tuesday!

No, superheroes are not coming to the library, the election is!  Once again, the Maud Marks Library will be a polling place for this year's Texas Primary Election.  If you want to vote in the Republican Primary and your voting precinct is 619, you can vote at the Maud Marks Library.  If you want to vote in the Democrat Primary and your voting precinct is 5-9. 522, 619, or 644, you can vote at the Maud Marks Library.  To find out your voting precinct number and where you vote, visit the Harris Votes webpage.

Read It Before You See It!

Did you know there is a book out there called Pride, Prejudice, & Zombies?  Did you know they have made it into a movie that opens next week?  It's not too late to read it before you see it!  However, if you are in the mood for something more traditional, Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austin is still a favorite among many.  It is available as a book, movie, or even miniseries.

Citizenship Classes Start Tonight!

Are you looking to become an American citizen or just interested in learning more about it?  Come to the library at 6:30 tonight.  We will begin our citizenship class series which will prepare you for the citizenship test.  This class will meet Mondays, January 11 and 25 and February 8, 15, and 22.  Come to one or all the classes to prepare for your future as an American citizen.

Computer Classes

The Maud Marks Library has some pretty great computer classes tomorrow.  Did you get an iPad or tablet for the holidays?  Tomorrow at 10 AM we will have a Getting Started with Apps class.  Learn all about the hundreds of apps out there to make your life easier, more productive, or even more fun!

At 1 PM is our Twitter class.  Learn to tweet and get back in touch with old friends and family.  You're only allowed 140 characters, can you have your say in less?

Watch Christmas Movies All Weekend Long!

OK, yes, we know that there are Christmas movies running nonstop on television right now.  What are we going to do on Saturday though when they stop?  The library can help with that!  Watch Christmas movies all weekend long and beyond with our Hoopla Database.  Hoopla contains a wide range of books, movies, comics, and TV shows which can be checked out and downloaded right to your device using the Hoopla app.  All you need is your Harris County library card!  Don't have one?  Click here to find out how you can get our Digital Card for free.

Time to Christmas Shop!

It's becoming crunch time for Christmas shopping!  Don't worry, the Maud Marks Library has you covered.  Join us for our Christmas book sale this Saturday 10 AM-4 PM.  Along with our usual offerings, we will have a special section of used Christmas books as well as our annual Christmas baskets.  The baskets have been specially chosen by our librarians for any reader in your life.  We have mystery baskets, children baskets, Christmas baskets, student baskets, and more.  Come see our wide selection of books and baskets at rock bottom prices and support the library at the same time!

Change to Wednesday Wonders

Starting tomorrow, Wednesday Wonders will be a ticketed program.  This is a program for elementary students ages 6-11.  We spend the hour exploring the world through STEAM, science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.  There is a different activity each week.  Come tickets will be available at 4:30 for our 4:45 PM program.  Tickets will be given to the first 25 elementary students.  There will be no admittance after 5 PM.

Winter is Coming! Is Your Garden Ready?

Yes, it might be 90 degrees outside but my calendar says that winter is indeed on it's way.  Make sure your garden is ready!  Harris County Master Gardeners will be here one more time this year as we discuss plant propagation and seed saving.  Come this Saturday at 10 AM to Maud Marks and make sure you know how to save and multiply your favorite plants and prepare to have an even better garden come spring!

And don't worry, we are only taking a 2 month break.  Master Gardeners will be back at the Maud Marks Library on the 3rd Saturday of every month starting in January.

Seating for this and most programs is limited.  Click here to sign up for this event.
