Happy Holidays everyone!  At the library, we've always celebrated this time of year in style with our annual Santa's Ranch.  Come out this Saturday 1-4 PM for food, crafts, music, facepainting, and of course a visit with the big guy himself.

At 1 PM join us as the Living Bells Handbell Choir plays holiday favorites such as "Home for the Holidays" and "Here Comes Santa Claus".  Then at 2 and 3 PM, listen to Christmas jazz played first on a trumpet then a saxaphone.

While you are here, don't forget to visit Santa's Gift Shop to pick up that last minute Christmas present!

Make Your Thanksgiving Table Perfect

Do you have all your Thanksgiving decorations yet?  We can help you with that.  This Tuesday at 2 PM, adults of all ages are invited to come make these beautiful but very simple Indian corn napkin rings for your Thanksgiving table.  Click here to sign up for this and other programs in November.

Many Adult Activities at the Library

Wow!  I was just looking at the calendar and we sure have a lot going on at Maud Marks over the next week!

Do you want to help out in the community?  On Saturday we have an English as a Second Language tutor training session starting at 9 AM.  In just 4 hours, we'll prepare you to teach adults from various countries English.  You don't even have to speak another language to help out; in fact, we prefer that you don't!  All we ask of you is a commitment of 1 1/2 hours per week through May.  Just think how rewarding it will be to help someone acclimate to life here in the Katy area!

Learn Something New

OK, have you ever felt like things are just moving too fast and there isn't time to learn everything you need to know?  Fear not, the Thomas A. Glazier Senior Education Center is here to the rescue.  Although they offer mostly computer classes, you can actually go there to learn much more than just that.  Learn about Medicare or wills.  Take a knitting class or catch a classic movie.  The senior education center has it all!

Want to learn more?  Come by the library next Tuesday at 2 PM and find out all about the educational possibilities at Glazier.  The only requirements for becoming a student there are that you must be 55+ and a resident of Harris County. You can register for their services right here at the library.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to the new school year!  At the library, we have quite a few things to help you along with your educational endeavors.    Are you having trouble finding that required summer reading book that you have a test on at the end of the week?  Our KISD summer reading case still has copies of a couple of the books on it.  If you can't find the book you need on our shelves, you might want to check out one of our E-Book or E-Audio databases and download it from there.

Also, don't forget our HCPL databases.  We have all kinds of databases to fit your homework needs.  Check out our Opposing Viewpoints, Learnatest, and Masterfile Premier, among others, to get your assignments done on time and in perfect condition.

Are You Ready?

CALLING ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS!!!!!!  Are you ready for the most important test you will ever take.  On Saturday, yes THIS Saturday, at 10:15 AM, Kaplan is coming to the library to give a mock SAT.  This is your chance to take the REAL SAT under SAT condition without having it count in your life.  Learn what you need to do to improve your score on one of the most important tests you’ll ever take.  All you'll need to bring with you is #2 pencils, a calculator and a snack.  (Yes, the snack is important since you'll be here until at least 2:15 PM.)  Seating for this and all programs is limited.  Click here to register for this all important program.

Movie this Friday

Hi everyone!  At the Maud Marks Library we've been showing movies every Friday, and we'll do it again this week at 1 PM.  However, there has been a slight change in plans.  We will no longer be showing a movie about pre-historic animals making their way through climate change.  Instead we will be showing a movie about a Viking who befriends a fantastical creature.   Can't guess what the movie is?  Give us a call and we'll tell you since we can't post the title here.  Or, just show up on Friday at 1 PM for popcorn and fun!

Did They Get Their Just Desserts?

There's still time to read the next book for our mystery book club!  On Wednesday, July 11 at 2 PM, the Just Desserts Mystery Book Club will be meeting once again to discuss our latest book A Bad Day's Work by Nora McFarland.  Best of all, we will be discussing the book with Nora McFarland herself via Skype!
