Do I have your attention yet?!

Yes, I really am talking about free money for you if your home was damaged in Hurricane Ike.  Let's face it, FEMA and insurance payment may not have been enough.  Many people still had to pay quite a bit of money out of pocket to fix their fences, roofs, walls, floors, and other repairs to their homes.  Did you know that you could get all of that money back?

Harris County Recovers is part of the Harris County Homeowner Disaster Recovery program designed to provide financial assistance to homeowners whose property was damaged by Hurricane Ike.  They are here to provide money to pay those massive repair bills.  Even if you have already spent your own money, you may qualify for a reimbursement.

Do you enjoy reading and discussing books?  Are you looking for a group of people who love books just as much as you do?  The Maud Marks Library has book clubs for any taste and schedule.  We host 3 book clubs monthly and always love to discuss books with a willing customer.

Everyone knows how expensive it is to take a car to a mechanic when it breaks down.  You can always go to the library and check out one of the Chilton's Repair Manuals, but those are big and bulky and what happens when the library doesn't have the manual for your car.  Now WHAT????!!!!

Here at the Maud Marks Library, we have the answer to your automotive problems.  Did you know that the Harris County Public Library has all that same information in an easy to access database?  On Saturday at 10 AM we will be hosting a class to teach you how to use the Chilton's Online Database.  Come and find all the diagrams and information you need to keep your car running like new.

 What's better than a good book or lunch with friends?  How about a good book AND lunch with friends!  At the Maud Marks Library we have always been big on food and books, so we decided to combine them and come up with our newest type of program, a lunch time edible book club.  Once a month we will read a book (not a cookbook) that contains recipes.  Then we'll discuss it as we eat food inspired by that book.  On Thursday, October 22 at 1 PM, we will be discussing Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flag.  It is a tale of two women who ran a little southern cafe in Whistle Stop, Alabama during the thirties. 

They offered good barbecue, good coffee, love and a little more back in the day.  Join us as we discuss this book over a lunch of fried green tomatoes, cornbread, pork chops & gravy, black-eyed peas, and more! Good food, great conversation,what more could anyone ask for?!

Hurricane season is here, are you ready? We will be hearing from the Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management next Tuesday at 6:30 PM.  Join us as we get evacuation tips and find out if your disaster emergency kit is good enough.  Topics will include what you can do before the season start to prepare your home, what needs to be done when the storm is on it’s way, how to survive during the storm, and what needs to be done during the aftermath.
