Senior Moments: The Medicare Program

Are your overwhelmed by the amount of information you have to know about Medicare?  Let us help you work your way through all the confusing questions.  We will have an expert on Medicare here at the library tomorrow at 1 PM to answer all your question on this government program.  Whether you've been confused by your Medicare coverage for years or are just getting to the age where you are required to sign up, let us help you through the mess!  Seating for this and for all programs is limited.  Please call the library or click here to register.

SAT Change!

Were you signed up to take the mock SAT at the library this weekend with the strategy session next week?  Due to the weather, we have had to cancel both events.  But, don't worry!  It has been rescheduled!  All teens are invited to join us on Saturday, April 2nd at 12 PM- 4 PM to take a practice SAT.  Then, come the following week at 1 PM for a Strategy Session to receive your graded SAT and get tips on how to improve your score.

Keep an eye on this space and we'll let you know when sign up begins.  Priority will be given to those who were signed up for this weekend.

It's That Time of the Year!

Yes, tax time is nearly here!  Granted, it took a few weeks longer for many of the IRS forms and publications to get to the local libraries than usual, but they are arriving now.  In fact, Maud Marks currently has many of the major forms you are looking for as well as the booklet for the 1040 EZ form.  We are sorry but the booklets for the 1040 form and the 1040A form have not yet arrived.  If there is a form you need that we don't have yet, a librarian can help you find and print it from the IRS website.

And, with the tax forms, comes the tax assistance.  The volunteers from AARP will be at the Maud Marks Library on Mondays and Fridays from 10 AM to 2 PM beginning February 4th.  Just remember that the IRS is still updating their systems and recommends that those filing itemized deductions file after February 14th.

It's Not Too Late!!!

Maud Marks Library is still collecting toys for the Marine annual Toys for Tots drive.  You have through Friday, December 17th to bring your new, unwrapped toy for our toybox located under the painting of Maud Smith Marks.  Be a Secret Santa for a child in need in the Katy area.  Every toy you bring in means another smile on a child's face on Christmas morning.  Thank you, Katy, for being so supportive during the holiday season.

The Library Doesn't Close for Thanksgiving!

O.K. maybe no librarian will be at the library this coming weekend, Nov. 25- Nov. 28.  Yes, perhaps the front doors at Maud Marks library will remain locked... but, that doesn't mean we're closed.  Harris County Public Libraries are ALWAYS open online here at www.hcpl.net.  You can find books, place holds, check your account, and pay fines using our catalog

They will be here this Tuesday night at 7 PM to discuss the history and impact of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad on the area. Come learn all about our prairie’s early history.
