Calling All Local Artists!

Do you dabble in the fine arts?  Do you have an inner painter or sculptor waiting to come out?  The Maud Marks Library want to show off your work during our annual "Celebrate Local Artists" Art Exhibition.  This call is open for all professional and emerging artists ages 6 years & above.

All you have to do is fill out and turn in our Entry Form & Artists Agreement Form.  Please return the form to our curators at merehartists@gmail.com by March 25, 2019.  Should your art work be accepted in to our exhibit, we will let you know by March 27.

Celebrate Texas Independence!

Seniors 55+ are invited to join the Maud Marks Library’s Timeless Travelers program this Saturday, March 2 for a FREE trip to the Washington on the Brazos for their Independence Day Celebration, courtesy of the Friends of Maud Marks Library and Precinct Three Transportation.  The bus departs at 9 AM from the Maud Marks Library for a fun day in Washington-On the Brazos as we listen to music, meet with reenactors, and more!.  Seating is extremely limited.  Please call the Maud Marks Library at 832-927-7860 to register for this trip. 

Timeless Travelers is a program series promoting educational and cultural enrichment for senior adults.  Once a month we take free bus trips across southeast Texas to experience the culture and history of this great state.  The only requirement is that you are old enough to attend (55+).  Thanks to the Friends of the Maud Marks Library for sponsoring this series.

Find Your Next Read at the Library!

Join us this Saturday, February 23 from 10 AM- 4 PM for our next Friends of the Maud Marks Library Book Sale.  In addition to our regular books, we also have a nice selection of DVDs, CDs and vinyl LPs, including some old 78's for sale.  Come see our insane prices and find your next favorite book!

Celebrate African American Culture

School gets out early on Friday, February 15 and we have a treat for you!  Between 2-4 PM, we will be celebrating the contributions of African Americans to our wonderfully diverse culture.  We start at 2 PM with a storytime for the whole family.  Then at 3 PM, a presentation by Main Street Theater, "Speak of Me as I Am".  We'll experience the great African American Shakespearean actors of yesteryear.  This is an interactive family friendly preformance proving that Shakespear is indeed for ALL!
We will also have crafts, food, and quizzes as we learn more about Africa and the culture those early slaves brought with them.

Tax Season Has Arrived

The tax forms have arrived at the Maud Marks Library and they are very confusing!  Don't worry though, help is on the way!  AARP starts their income tax assistance program this Friday, February 1 at 10 AM at the Maud Marks Library.  AARP specializes in helping elderly and low-income individuals with their taxes but really anyone with returns that are not super complicated can take advantage of this service.  They will be here every Friday and Monday until April 15 from 10 AM to 2 PM.  They work on a first come, first served basis.  Please bring your ID, social security cards for all family members, and last years tax return.  We will see you Friday morning!

Happy Holidays From the Maud Marks Library!

Happy Holidays from the Maud Marks Library!  The library will be closing today, Friday, December 21 at 5 PM, so we can spend the holidays with our families.  We will be reopening on Wednesday, December 26 at 10 AM.

Walk in a Winter Wonderland!

Join us tomorrow, Friday, December 21 at 2-4 pm at the Maud Marks Library for our annual Christmas open house.  This year's theme: Winter Wonderland!  We will be decorating gingerbread men, playing a life-size game of Candy Land, meeting Santa, listening to holiday music, and more!

 

 

Happy Thanksgiving!!

The Maud Marks Library wishes a Happy Thanksgiving to Katy and West Houston!  We just wanted to remind you that the library will be closing tomorrow, Wednesday, November 21 at 5 PM.  Don't forget to come in before that to get your movies, audio CDs, music, and books for the long holiday weekend.  We will open again on Monday, November 26 at 1 PM as usual.

Meanwhile, if you can't make it in before the holiday starts, don't forget our digital collection.  We have plenty of eBooks, eAudios, magazines, movies, and more available through our online databases.  Check them out here.

Book Sale This Saturday

Tomorrow is the first of two, count them TWO book sales during the month of September.  The Friends are setting up for the sale right now and it looks to be a great one.  The meeting room has been filled, wall to wall with books, books, and more books.  Best of all, everything sells for rock bottom prices.  Join us tomorrow, September 1 at 10 AM- 4 PM for the first book sale of the month.
